Hi

Have joined this site on recommendation as going through a tough time at the moment. Currently getting divorced and have just bought a house that has to be gutted and renovated for me & my little boy to move into in 5 weeks time!! Oh and just add to the mix I work as well, although only part time. Unfortunately I suffer anxiety and depression which is partly why I was recommended to go on here. Just in need of a bit of support at the moment really. Need to get through this in one piece! And as one friend pointed out, if I can get through this I can get through anything - I hope she's right!!

Go for it!! Get a room finished in the new house first so that your little boy can sleep there and be lifted and taken home later, if you need to work late into the evening.

Erm ... don't take too much on. Erm ... try to work on a good support network ... oh yeah, big piles of clothes piled on the sofa are the norm and not a sign that your a failing parent Grin.

If you make sure you have bread and milk in at all times then you are doing a better job than i am.

It's bloody hard work so try not to be too hard on yourself.

I too am doing up the house, I dont work but i am my sons carer so I can sympathise with a lot of the hassle you are having already.

Welcome to MM MummyCEO Smile

Is your timescale rigid in terms of getting into the new house? How old is your little boy? Do you have a local support network?

Anyone would be anxious but you'll get through it and hey, at least at the end of it you will have a nice newly renovated house!

My main piece of advice would be to lower your standards for the next 5 weeks. Don't worry about things like ironing, cooking every night, etc.

Thanks for the messages. Molepom, bread and milk at all times?? Nope, not managing that one! Whiteandnerdy, were you looking through my window - I have washing everywhere, sofa, baskets, and I'm afraid i did see it as failing, have a mad dash to clear it all away! WhoWhoWhoWho, yes my timescale is rigid, mores the pity, as I have to be out of my current place then. My little boy has just turned 3. Nearly had a major panic today when the electricians said they couldn't come until 21st Nov, but with a bit of persuading hope it's going to be next thurs. Just keep ending up with more and more lists, and a pounding headache.

Nahh not looking through your window, washing everywhere simply means you've prioritised your effort and resources into things you feel is more important than making your house 'look nice'. The only point of putting clothes away in cupboards and draws to only get them out again a few days later is it makes you house 'look nice.' I think alot if not most single parents have much higher priorities for their limited resources than making the house 'look nice', hence washing on sofas.

..and on radiators. And hanging over the landing bannister.

molepom · 05/11/2011 22:56

...on beds in piles..on floor next to bed in piles...yep, that sounds familiar.

I have milk in at all times [boastful emoticon] and usually a few milk bottles full of yoghurty/cheese combination Blush! Thank goodness for the milk man! Same can not be said of bread though.

What do you need done first? Wiring? Can you start work on other things while waiting for that? I spent half my childhood living in houses undergoing renovation. In one house I think we were all in one bedroom when we moved in, or maybe it was the living room we slept in... In the other house my parents had kids rooms ready and kitchen and bathroom when we moved in.

MummyCeo · 19/11/2011 00:06

Hi, sorry not replied earlier. With three weeks to moving and things are looking fairly promising. All first fix wiring done, plasterer finished today, so can start painting ceilings tomorrow whilst waiting for that to dry! I have a kitchen in the sitting room, bathroom suite in a bedroom, and stuff everywhere!! Feeling very up and down in myself though, manic one minute and so tired the next. Hey ho, just keep swimming I guess!
