Facebook campaign against CSA charges - join now

Hi

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have started a Facebook 'campaign against Tory child maintenance proposals' (type that into the facebook search box and you'll find us).

We HAVE to make our voices heard. We have until 7 April to respond to a DWP consultation paper which proposes an application fee of £100 or so to use the CSA, then they'll take 7-12% of your child's maintenance every time they make a collection for you - money which you don't get back and which goes straight into their coffers.

Additionally they will calculate up to 20% of the maintenance figure and charge this to the absent parent as a penalty for making the other parent use the CSA.

This is a disgusting tax on our children. Why should they have their maintenance taken away just because the absent parent is being awkward and forcing the parent with care to use the CSA?

Please do join our campaign which has details of the DWP webpage where you can tell the government what you think.

Lisa

Thanks Lisa, I'll join as soon as FB is up and running again (it's been down for me all day) and will also write to my MP.

Thanks for that. Hadn't even heard about these proposals.
They sound ridiculous and totally inappropriate.
Aren't lps financially penalised enough as it is ffs?

AngryLisa · 14/01/2011 21:08

Exactly. It's criminal that the tories can even think of taking money away from the child who, let's face it, is pretty defenceless and being punished because the absent parent is being difficult.

Can you imagine a situation where someone has an injunction taken out on someone else, who then breaches it, and who then takes them to court to have it enforced and has to pay all their legal costs themselves. This generally wouldn't happen as an order for costs would be made against the person they've taken the injunction out against.

So why is it that if someone breaks the law in court, you don't have to pay, but if a single parent's ex doesn't meet their legal obligations, you do have to pay?

I am sorry to say but I support this proposal. Its certainly not a bad idea when you have an ex wife who constantly goes to the CSA even when the non resident father is paying more than the CSA recommends. It wastes the CSA's time constantly having to look into waste of time cases when they should be concentrating their efforts on fathers who avoid paying

ivykaty44 · 16/01/2011 20:09

It menas that anyone that has a private arrangment doens't have to pay - so those fathers that stand up and pay the resident parents doesn't haev to pay

But the fathers or mothers who are feckless and refuse to pay for the upkeep of their dc - those ex wives will have to pay for the privalidge of the feckless NRP not paying any money

no it will only discriminate against those who had dc with feckless arses - not nice people

ivykaty44 · 16/01/2011 20:19

of course it doesn't make any sense

I will not break up due to new CSA arrangents - I can't believe they really think this would be the case - weeps in the corners at the stupidity

Just found out about this proposal after logging in and i'm outraged Angry!!! Yes the service needs to be paid for and for parents on benefits this scheme seems a little fairer than the previous one where we were only allowed to keep £20 a week reguardless of how much we were awarded but in reality this money is for our children not us! It is totally unfair that parents with care are expected to pay towards an organisation that quite frankly doesn't do the job it's supposed toHmm. If they are to charge then it should be the absent parent who has to pay not our children. This govt is penalising lone parents and pushing single parent families in to poverty the sooner they are ousted the better. Must admit I was a bit disenchanted with the old labour govt but it seemed a much fairer country than the one we have now! This govt is trying to say that single parent families can't provide stable homes for their children and putting too much pressure on mothers to return to work rather than have the choice to care for our children and they don't take into consideration individual circumstances. They even want to charge for making an application working parents with care £100 people on benefits £50 with first instalment of £20 then rest to be deducted in instalments if the trace they absent parent. This will stop single parents and children from getting the money they deserve and letting the irresponsible parent walk away as people won't want to pay. If you can come up with your own arrangements you won't be charged but how many single parents have xp that would sit down and discuss things reasonably. When does the consultation start can we E-Mail our concerns now?
