Autumnal trip to London

Planning a trip in the next couple of weeks, staying in Richmond. Obviously Richmond park and a river walk are on our list, plus Kew Gardens. We’re also going to the Richard Dadd exhibition at the Royal Academy.

Looking for food recommendations, whilst acknowledging that Richmond itself is pretty shit for food!

Has anyone been to Pravaas in South Kensington? The lunch menu looks good and we could combine it with the V & A. Or anywhere else people might recommend with a decent set lunch menu at around £45 per head?

In Richmond, we like the Roebuck and White Horse pubs for a drink, but the food doesn’t look very inspiring in either. Any recs for pub food or a restaurant that isn’t a chain?

Or lunch on Bloomsbury or Marylebone that feels cosy and a bit autumnal? Somewhere pretty?

Petersham nurseries is lovely and well worth a visit. A friend and I go to the teahouse on our birthdays - this is not the same as the restaurant - the cakes are wonderful! You can't book for the teahouse but you will always get a table. They do salads and light meals too. And you can browse the mega expensive garden centre and trinkets and homewear they sell.

Another option is the Petersham Hotel. I have had afternoon tea there and it's simply lovely.

Or what about Ham House? National Trust with a nice cafe.

There are some good restaurants, not chains, on Kew Road in Richmond. I like the Chinese, the 4 Seasons I think it's called.

If it's a nice day, walk along the river towards Kingston and you will find Stein's, which is authentic German food. It's my favourite place to eat in Richmond. It's all outdoors.

Enjoy your trip. Btw in Kew Gardens we always eat at the Orangery. I'm a member so I know Kew well. Avoid the restaurant the children's playground unless you have little kids with you.

Lovely, thank you. I don’t think we’ll have time for Petersham Nurseries on this trip, but must make sure to return. I’ll check out what’s on Kew Road. I struggle with Chinese but Mr R loves it.
