Boyfriend is thinking of taking me there for my birthday (as well as abroad for a few days). Is it still good there? Went before Covid a few times. And what are good late night bars there? I only know The Social really (streets behind IKEA).

To me it was no more special than going to somewhere like Côte. There are loads of great restaurants I'd rather go to.

If you like authentic Italian, Brutto near Farringdon is very good and a lively atmosphere.

Bitzee · 16/08/2026 17:24

Overrated. I mean it’s fine. If you’re fine with fine. But I’ve never understood the love for it on here. I never went pre covid though so maybe it used to be better IDK. Archer Street is great for a lively night out near there though.

LasVegass · 16/08/2026 17:29

I went a few times. It’s nice and not crazy prices. A bit too big IMO.

TISSHA · 16/08/2026 17:32

Beautiful room. That is it’s only selling point now sadly…..

We used to go all the time and now don’t bother. Service is dire, menu pretty dull and often poorly executed. And still punchy price wise.

There are a million better places to go within a few minutes of there, Soho absolutely teeming with truly excellent restaurants - Noble Rot, Gunpowder, 10 Greek Street, QuoVadis, the legendary Andrew Edmunds.

Bar Italia for late night drinking!

Minasama · 16/08/2026 17:40

Went in December and really enjoyed it. It’s big and buzzy rather than intimidate, I enjoyed the food.

Rocknrollstar · 16/08/2026 17:46

I love it there and we always go to the American Bar as well. The staff are friendly and helpful.

GreenEyesMillennial · 16/08/2026 17:48

Went there years ago and we enjoyed it!

Baileyss · 16/08/2026 17:49

I have been a few times and think it’s very average.

ThatWasAFunDay · 16/08/2026 17:55

I go fairly often. It used to be amazing and great value and now while it’s ‘ok’ and it’s not as good value. Still worth going though as it’s such a unique place, the food is fine. I don’t live in London and it’s the type of place that feels very ‘big city’. I find the service is good.
Ive accepted that restaurants can’t survive if they are too cheap these days.
I also miss their crab starter. I used to have it with chips as my main course. It was simple but so tasty.

Grumplechops · 16/08/2026 18:00

Very average food. Lovely room, but so many better places in London

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 16/08/2026 19:33

I’ll change the venue then. Thanks all.

Assuming you wanted french food, le petit citron in hammersmith is good.

Not necessarily French food just a nice venue.

Dishoom in covent garden?

tobee · 16/08/2026 21:27

I still love it. Some French food that’s hard to find on other menus. I love that it’s massive.

MaxJLHardy · 16/08/2026 21:28

Go to Romano’s above Simpson’s, fantastic.

semideponent · 16/08/2026 21:39

Dislike it, but not sure what else to recommend in the area. Stevie Parle's Town? Not quite the same vibe though

Comtesse · 16/08/2026 21:41

Crazy Coqs (one of the bars in Zedel) is brilliant if you like jazz / blues, go there all the time.

TISSHA · 16/08/2026 21:41

Berner’s Tavern is a beautiful room; really special. Not eaten there since Covid though, so can’t give an opinion on food/value. When we went before it was good. Also up behind IKEA/Oxford St area.

Katisha · 16/08/2026 21:46

We really like it. Nice sense of occasion without being stuffy

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 16/08/2026 21:46

the Woolsley is about half a mile away and has a similar kind of vibe to me - really interesting and brilliantly decorated room. food pricier but better in my view

The Wolseley is much more expensive and not really better food for the price; just a different style - less traditional bistro more fancy restaurant. A lot of their puddings are a bit rubbish - teeny, tiny slice of something cakey/patisserie style that’s been made earlier. I do quite like it because of the venue but my god it’s expensive now.

2BarbieOrNot2Barbie · 17/08/2026 13:58

I’ve been to Zedels lots. For the price I think it’s fairly decent in a central location in a lovely space. Most of the other restaurants mentioned are significantly more expensive. The food is pretty good in my view and it’s been a go to in my family for a long time when we are all meeting up in central London.
