I live will be spending 1 week a month in London from Sept, can stay anywhere central. Looking for somewhere with a bar/gym/social space I might find people to have a chat to? I don't really know anyone in London and would like to make some sort of social life if possible - this will be for the next 5 years at least, prob longer.
The hotel is all paid for and I can chose within reason, I am not a fancy person but do like nice food and would appreciate not spending all my time alone outside of meetings.
Advice very much appreciated - thank you!

Do you have colleagues working the same pattern?

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 16/08/2026 11:48

Most hotels cater for tourists, so it would be very transient at best

What age/ sex are you? What interests? Are you a clubbing person, or someone who does a lot of sport eg?

Aaloyisha · 16/08/2026 12:16

Have you thought about joining a club? They usually have accommodation at cheaper rates for members, and are obviously very social.

I’ve heard good things about the University Women’s Club.

Great questions -thank you

@BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation yes I want to avoid touristy places if possible, thanks.
I have my own businesses and we are expanding into London market so I am holding consultations with new clients - no colleagues in London unfortuantely.

@Bacha1910 I am 52, I like theatre, cinema, nice food, a good chat, meeting people and having a laugh more than anything else.

@Aaloyisha I haven't but will read about this - thank you

Where do you need to get to in central London each day? I would look at a nice residential area close to there such as Marylebone, Angel, Nottinghill, Hampstead etc.

I’ve heard good things about the University Women’s Club too.

I think for that length of time, an Airbnb in a residential area would be better than a hotel. Somewhere you can have a bit of continuity in your own bedroom and then get to know people in the area. They might let you keep some things in a cupboard, so you don't feel you are living out of a suitcase.

Maybe find an activity that only happens monthly, so you aren't missing out in the weeks you aren't there - things like an art class or games night might be monthly. Join a gym that has branches in London and your home town. I have just started padel and you can sign up to open games. I think that would be good for people looking to socialise.

I've just looked at the University Club and it looks great! You could go to events held there, work there and live there for one week a month.

There's also Mason and fifth which is v nice but pricey

HolidayHappy123 · 16/08/2026 17:23

Get a Soho House membership and stay there.

VividDeer · 16/08/2026 17:29

If sporty you could join a gym like david lloyd. London probably has swanky options!
But david lloyd you could split time at home and in a guest club if you join the more expensive one.

thanks, great ideas here! I am investigating.
I could get a rental but I think I'd be very isolated. I rurally normally and I have a big family that are always around, my day to day work is very sociable too. I think I'll be lonely with no chit chat 😂

I have stayed at Ark Canary Wharf. Mini apartments, fab views, pool, gym, laundry room etc very sleek. There's also a co-working space. Only downside is no air con in the room.
