A great mixed state school in London?

We’re relocating from Manchester to London with 8 and 10 year old children. Main criteria for new house is to be near an excellent mixed state secondary school. We’re looking for an inclusive, supportive ethos with good academics as well as extracurricular activities (sport / drama)
Does anyone have any advice? We have friends north and south of the river so we are open to anywhere at the moment. South London is a slight preference.
Appreciate this is very broad but if anyone has any tips of great schools I’d love to visit some in the summer term.
Thanks all!

Actually 3 bed houses in Orpington are that budget but girls and boys schools only. Are you set on a mixed? Friends of mine sent their DD to Kingsdale she’s left now, actually didn’t do brilliantly there at all. Other local parents send their DC to local Harris academies - these parents are eg Marketing Exec c4, film/tv journalist and wife at Barbican centre, record company CEO and DJ agent (Kingsdale). My mum actually taught creative writing classes at Graveney but have no idea how popular it is to get into. Beckenham has Langley park boys and girls schools both v good.

Thanks for this. Set on mixed, yes. Not keen on single sex education.

Love that your mum went to a school to teach creative writing!

Yes @Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain Kingston was already becoming a natural shopping hub so made sense commercially.

I went to a catholic prep that had some protestants! Knew some girls who went to Virgo. Beautiful building, it was one of the potential locations for the Harry Potter movies.

Harris are quite marmite, I know some who like and some who hate.

Oh really?! Bet the nuns were rubbing their hands at the thought of the money!

I was petrified in that school, worried about fires as all wooden staircases and having wax effigy in glass case in chapel gave me nightmares. I thought all convents looked the same but obvs not!

Yes my mum has written educational books on creative writing, a thesaurus and she was invited to get the graveney kids to write more creatively which they did. She was a drama teacher too.

Which Catholic prep? Most of my friends went to Virgo prep but I joined in secondary school so missed out, the girls had cute straw boaters and berets in prep.
