Planning a 14-Day London Adventure

HalaTehreem · 18/08/2025 09:08

Hi everyone,
I’m planning a 14-day trip to London and could use some advice! I want to explore the city without feeling rushed, mixing history, culture, great food, and hidden gems. I also love strolling charming neighborhoods and people-watching at local cafés.
Has anyone done a similar extended stay in London? Any tips on pacing, must-see sights, or off-the-beaten-path experiences? I’d love your recommendations to help me craft a truly memorable trip!

What time of year were you thinking ? Are you going to Air BnB or hotel?

BIWI · 18/08/2025 13:12

Whereabouts are you staying? And have you been to London before? If you have, what did you do/see then?

What kind of things do you like/not like doing?

TheJaneyB · 18/08/2025 13:15

Is it just you or are you coming with others? Is it just London you’re interested in or also day trips from London? Eg Windsor, Bath

Mydahliasareshit · 18/08/2025 13:16

Try Treasuredays
treasuredays.com/treasure-hunts/group/category/london-hunts

lots of locations, a guided route you can follow at your own pace and fun things to look out for.

Have a lovely holiday! 😃

tattoolondon · 18/08/2025 13:18

walks.com has some really good guided walks, I’ve done a few and they are a great way to get to know different parts of the city

HonoriaBulstrode · 18/08/2025 13:25

I'd say you're on the right track with wanting to explore without feeling rushed.

I'd suggest putting together a list of 'must see' sights, then another list of places you'd like to visit, but could drop if you're feeling too rushed.

Plan your days so you're visiting places close to each other, not rushing from one side of London to the other.

On foot or the top of a bus are the best ways to see London. The Uber boat is also a relaxing way to get a different view.

The big museums are always busy. Best to pick out one or two rooms or galleries to focus on, rather than try to do the whole museum.

Don't try to do more than one or at most two big attractions in each day. St Paul's, for example, could take up most of a day if you do it thoroughly.

Chat gpt is quite good for ideas for itineraries.

Whereabouts are you staying, OP? It will help with suggesting itineraries.

OopsNoHoliday · 18/08/2025 13:34

In fine-weather that will be fabulous! Try and do it when the weather is warm

We got a boat down the Thames to Hampton Court once, that was an amazing (not cheap!) day trip.

You might also like a change of pace visiting Kew Gardens.

Or get tickets to the open air theatre in Regent’s Park in the evening - take a picnic and relax for a day in between all the crazy sightseeing

HonoriaBulstrode · 18/08/2025 13:36

Have a good breakfast/brunch/elevenses before going into a big paid for attraction. Being a tourist is tiring and you don't want to flake out halfway round!

don't bother with the tourist bus tours. Ordinary red buses will take you past most of the sights, and places the tourist buses don't go. See www.tfl.gov.uk for route maps and advice on getting around.

the tube is the quickest way to cover longer distances.

I’ll be going with my husband. We’re mainly interested in London, but we’d also be open to a couple of day trips like Windsor or Bath.

Chat gpt is quite good for ideas for itineraries.

Yes, ChatGPT can be helpful for generating itinerary ideas, but it’s not a human so it doesn’t have emotions, feelings, or personal experiences behind its suggestions.

Denis Severs house in Spittlefields is done up for Christmas (book in advance as it’s small with limited capacity). The whole are around that is very interesting and you can walk up Brick lane and then continue up side streets to Museum of the Home.

If you like the theatre as well as three big west end shows (plenty od advice on other threads about tickets) there are some excellent smaller theatres such as the Southwark Playhouse and Wilton’s music hall.

Areas such as Picadilly circus will be busy especially at weekends but good to wonder round at night for the decorations etc.

Greenwich is easy by train or DLR or even for a longer walk along the river. Come back on the Uber boat as bridges are lit up.

TooManyCupsAndMugs · 19/08/2025 07:51

I love the French café in Leadenhall Market and then strolling around to the Guildhall Gallery which has lots of Victorian paintingsand Roman remains in the basement. The area around Liverpool Street also has Brick Lane, Spitalfields Market and Banksy murals.

5andals · 19/08/2025 07:58

Make sure to get an Oyster card, or use contactless payment on the tubes and buses, much cheaper.
I've recently moved to London and wanted to get to know the place. I've found the buses a good way to do it. Pick a route between two places you want to visit ( I use Google maps} and use the buses to travel between. Cheaper the the tube £1.75 instead of £3.60 and you see a lot more.

Kyotoorbust · 19/08/2025 08:03

Whereabouts are you staying?

Not many legal Airbnbs in London- so assume it is in the suburbs? Which tube line?

December has ice skating at Somerset house
winter wonderland (an experience)
christmas lights

day trip to Paris on the eurostar or brussels

I live in London and love to explore. Here are a couple of ideas, in no order

London Fields / Broadway Market / Victoria Park < people watching on the weekend
Alfies Antiques Market
North part of Notting Hill (Goldborne Road) < cute shops / restaurants, not so touristy
Barbican architecture walking tour
Prince Charles cinema (definitely see The Room if it's showing - or other 'interactive' showings)
Daytrip to Cambridge to visit Kettle's Yard
Museum of Brands
Dennis Severs House
Vintage shops on Brick Lane (avoid weekend - gets too busy) (Atika is great)
Check out Art Rabbit website for what's on at galleries
Foyles on Charing Cross Rd
Liberty's Christmas Shop on top floor
Walking tour - https://www.walks.com/ < I particularly like the Hampstead one
Walk along Regents Canal (Camden to Warwick Avenue is nice, or London Fields to Victoria Park)
Cold water swimming in Hampstead ponds / Serpentine

Restaurants -
Jin Kichi (Hampstead, needs booking ahead, sit at the grill counter)
Kolae (try the crispy prawn heads - omg so good. Or the chicken skewer)
Sweetings
Mr Ji (Camden)
Quality Chop House
Koya City (I prefer it to the Soho branch, less busy and can book. Though the Soho branch is very special for breakfast)
J Sheekey
Quo Vadis (don't miss their smoked eel sandwich)
Toba
Brat (basque cheesecake)
Spring (Somerset House - they do a good value set lunch)
Dishoom
40 Maltby Street
Bouchon Racine
Oma

Yes, and when you’ve tapped your card on a bus then that covers all your bus travel for the next hour.

It’s crucial to use the same card every time & each person needs a separate one.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 19/08/2025 08:12

as places a bit further out the way, I love Greenwich (you can get the TfL Uber boat there and back from central) and you can walk across Greenwich park to Blackheath too. Doesn’t feel like London!

id also download Today Tix and see what on the day bargain shows you can find. And Central Tickets for very low price, last minute, more local London type events.

EasternSkies · 19/08/2025 08:39

Explore different neighbourhoods.

Hampstead, a stroll and coffee round the village and a winter walk over Hampstead Heath

Take the tube to Brixton, see the Bowie Mural, Electric Avenue, Pop Brixton, explore Brixton Village indoor market, have a curry or a roti at Fish, Wings and Tings , see what’s on at Brixton House Theatre or the iconic Ritzy cinema or Black Cultural Archives museum.

Greenwich. Take the Uber boat down. Wander round the market, the splendid Naval Colleges, Maritime Museum. Walk up the hill for fantastic views over London, the Astronomy museum and planetarium and the International Date Line. Walk down in time for a cocktail, and the Cutty Sark looks fantastic lit up after dark.

The Carnaby Street Christmas Lights are usually the best, evening stroll after late night opening at the gorgeous Liberty store

Consider watching a trial at the Old Bailey one morning? Or the public gallery at the House of Commons?

Go for a swim at the Marshall Street Leisure Centre in Soho (also v close to Carnaby St) : Art Deco pool with original marble floor.

@HalaTehreem whereabouts is your AirBnB?

If you’re interested in exploring, and puzzle-solving, there are three Mystery Guides that are London-based. One in the West End, one in the City and one in Fleet Street. Each one takes around 3 hours to do (you do it on your own, in your own time), and as well as being good fun, they give you insight into the history of the places you’re visiting.

City of London Treasure Hunt | Outdoor Escape Room | Scavenger Hunt

Turn city streets into outdoor escape rooms! Get outside, discover history, and solve a mystery! If you love walking, local history, and solving puzzles, then a Mystery Guides adventure book is the perfect activity for you and your friends!
