Where to live as a student at Goldsmiths

My 19 yr old daughter will be going to Goldsmiths this September and is unsure where is the best area to rent in for at least the first year.
She’s never lived in the UK but her sisters both live in West London so is more familiar with that side of the river. I worked in New Cross 25 years ago and I remember it as a bit rough and not somewhere I’d like to live. I understand times have changed so am looking for current advice. She’ll be flat sharing with a friend who will be working in the City so it would need to be commutable for both. Her dad will be picking up the rent so she’s not on a shoestring!

Central Greenwich is nice - near the park. I used to live near Maze Hill which goes into London Bridge. And you have the Jubilee Line which goes to Canary Wharf over the river. In central Greenwich there's also an entire underpass you can walk through under the Thames. There's a nice market on the weekend in Greenwich. Park run in the park at weekends. Basically enough to entertain yourself without spending lots. Nice village feel.

There are lots of Goldsmiths students around telegraph hill and Brockley (Goldsmiths has a few halls in Brockley). They are nice places to live and (with a bit of searching) you can find something on a budget. Not wildly exciting though. NX itself is quite dodgy imo (as someone there every day!). I wouldn’t recommend it to a young woman. Deptford is marginally better but tending towards £££ at the moment.

I'd suggest Denmark Hill. Close for both. Reasonably fun area.

Brockley

Brockley or Forest hill my first thoughts along with Greenwich, New Cross & Deptford can still be very gritty I personally wouldn’t like to be walking around late at night.

Thank you all so much. This is exactly the intel I was looking for.

When I went to Goldsmiths I lived in New cross, Deptford and Lewisham, then Greenwich after uni. It was a while ago now though. Greenwich was nice, the others I wouldn’t choose to live in again personally. I have friends who live in Brockley and it is really nice there. Forest Hill also good. Parts of Camberwell are good.

Lewisham is another area I’d avoid, the traffic is insane it’s very noisy & feels incredibly busy & quite overwhelming.

Brockley is walkable to the college, and also well connected to London Bridge. She'll be near friends in halls. It's a bit quieter and greener (Hilly Fields is nice) than New Cross.
