Hi, my husband had an offer for a job in London and we were wondering which place would be better for him to commute and also to raise a child? We were thinking oxford or cambridge? Maybe windsor? Any idea on which one is better and safe to raise a child? Tia

Where in London is the job? Commuting by car or train?

I love Cambridge, grew up near there and went to sixth form there. Also spent weeks living in the very centre a couple of years ago, it is a gorgeous place to be.
But it's not a quick commute to London. It's pretty straightforward by train and deceptively fast - 48 minutes. But you have to factor in getting to Cambridge Station and then onward journey unless you work near King's Cross.
I spoke to someone who did work on the Euston Road and commuted by train daily to Cambridge, she said he nearly killed her because of the railways problems. To be fair the strikes ended when the tories fell from power.

What’s your budget? The cost of a train commute to many of these places is astonishingly high. Why wouldn’t you consider London outer boroughs? (Many of these are leafy and can be lower crime).

Windsor is lovely but an hour by slow train to Waterloo so not a great commute - fine 1-2 times a week

The job is near St Paul's cathedral. Commuting would be only once a week. But wanting to find a nice and safe place to raise my baby. Thank you for your help 😀

Look along the Thameslink line, north and south. For once a week not worth paying central London prices.

Ok look at Hatfield, Hertford, St Albans and hitchin
