Hi there. We are considering moving to North Ealing. We are a young professional family with two children (primary school age). We have visited and walked around the area a couple of times and the area (North of the station) was pleasant and but no life. It felt like a ghost town and nobody walking around etc. we currently live in a different part of West London nearby where there is a really nice community - lots of dog walkers, families etc and people are always socialising in parks/streets/cafes. Love to hear from people who live in North Ealing with young families about what is like living there and what kind of people live there. Also is there a lot of crime in the area? Thank you!

I grew up in this area and visit my family frequently there.

North of the station is known as the Haymills estate which is very residential and so that's probably what you noticed was quiet. It's a mix of families and older couples. It has always been a good community and leans on being posh.

The life that I think you're looking for can be found west of North Ealing towards Ealing Broadway. Lots of young families there over the weekend. It has lots of restaurants, and some of Ealing's best private schools and a few nice parks. There used to be a very good shopping centre there but it went a bit downhill with Westfield opening nearby. Lots of good shops had shut down but it looks like more recently (in the past year) some nicer (but maybe not that useful) shops are opening (Rituals, Oliver Bonas) so I think it will improve. Or if you go more towards West Acton there is another park and a primary school. There is a big expat Japanese community in the area and also a big Japanese school in West Acton. I would say in general it's a lovely area and feels safe. I am not sure exactly about the crime rate but I think it's infrequent enough to not be on my radar.

Hope that helps x

@gollyimholly thank you for sharing! We go to EB every Saturday for our children’s classes. We are exploring NE as it seems quieter….just find EB too hectic with buses and people arriving on mass! We will keep visiting NE to get a better feel for it before we commit to relocating from W4. Thank you

Pitshanger Lane and road off it are great and definitely not a ghost town. North Ealing primary has a very good reputation and there are a lot of good school options around.

Making a case for Northfields / South Ealing. Lovely coffee shops between SE and EB - Pulp in particular is amazing, as is Paperback. Great primary schools (Fielding if you’re in catchment or Little Ealing), really family oriented plus if you’re in catchment then Ealing Fields or Elthorne are great secondary schools.

I would second Northfields. So many of my baby club live there and it is wonderful for families.

Thank you all! Yes my friends live Northfields and I also love Pitahanger area. We are thinking of North Ealing because of the secondary school catchment. I guess if we move to NE we can always walk to EB and Pitshanger areas on weekends and we just need to get used to quiet suburbian life.

Hello, thank you for your previous advice and hope will see the message. So we are now narrowing down to Northfields. But also considering the residential area between Northfields and South Ealing as and just wondering what the neighbourhood is like in South Ealing as the high street doesn’t feel so safe and the vive is quite different to Northfields.thank you!

I used to live in SE and now just behind Lammas Park between the two. Northfields is nicer but the butchers on South Ealing road is amazing. South Ealing feels more like a through way because it’s quite a way between Acton Town and SE tube, if you live between the two it’s quieter. Northfields has a more family vibe to me, SE is a bit edgier, personally I prefer Northfields but having said that I always get the tube to and from South Ealing, even late at night and feel safe. I would say catchment catchment catchment, especially for Ealing Fields it’s tight and is shrinking, or Elthorne is an excellent secondary too.

I think you'd miss Chiswick a lot but you'd get more for your money in north Ealing. If you actually want to move out out maybe consider somewhere like ruislip

BuzyMumm · 28/04/2025 23:23

Thank you both!!

Hi there, what did you end up doing? We’re thinking of a similar move but don’t know the area that well.

BuzyMumm · 06/12/2025 09:11

@JWF82 - hi there, we haven’t made the move yet as we haven’t managed to sell our current property but we are def considering this area

Thank you for the reply. And good luck.

BuzyMumm · 01/03/2026 18:06

@JWF82 - have you decided yet? After many visits and comparing the two areas, we have decided to go with Ealing Broadway.

I’d probably do Ealing Broadway too. I don’t know north Ealing that well but do know it. Lived in West Ealing when younger.
