Hi, se just saw a gorgeous house next to Mountsfield Park in Hither Green.
The house ticks all the boxes but we don’t know the area.

Is it family friendly? Safe?
I can ser there are lots of good primary schools (is Brindishe Green good?)
Are there any good high schools?
ideally I would like one within 20
mins walk.

Anything I need to know about HG?
Thank you :)

I live in this general area and love it here! It is very family friendly and has a really good sense of community. Pretty much all the local primaries are excellent - my kids aren't at that one but I know other parents there who are very happy with it. People always say the secondaries aren't great but, having looked at Trinity secondary I was really impressed with it. No experience if sending a child there yet however. If you have girls you may be close enough to Prendergast girls school in Ladywell.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I’m a little nervous with the proximity to Catford and the crime rate but hopefully all will be ok.
We got the house so moving in 2 weeks.
Now, I have the challenging task of finding two spots at Brindishe Green before the end of June so they can do the last 3-4 weeks of school.

Any tips?

I grew up in Catford and my best friend lived in Hither Green. We walked through HG every day to school and I got a train from there to sixth form. But it's 10 years since I left so things may have changed.

Mountsfield Park had a bad reputation for crime, but typically you were fine unless you invited trouble. Crime looks pretty low now according to the Met Police crime map.

No community feel, most people maybe know their direct neighbours but that's it.

I visit old friends there occasionally and around the South circ always looks depressing, grey, and run down to me. But some of the residential back roads are more pleasant.

Congrats on getting your house!
I don't know any tips for getting into a specific school mid-year, sorry. If you don't get into Brindishe Green then it might be worth looking at Trinity, which isn't too much further away. My daughter is there and we have been really impressed with her progress, plus it has such a wonderful family atmosphere. Obviously I don't know whether they have spaces so I am just mentioning it so you know there are other options should B Green not work out. Trinity is a "church school" but if you are not Christian then don't let that put you off - we're not Christian or religious at all and it has been totally fine, the religious aspect is quite optional and doesn't have any impact at all on the education or curriculum provided.

Hello! We live very happily and safely in Catford. Lovely community. We don’t bite. :)
