Celebration lunch in London

Hi

Does anyone have any suggestions of restaurants in London (on a Sunday lunchtime) for a celebration meal? So somewhere that feels a bit special, not just a normal brunch.

Despite living in London for a long time, I haven’t been able to get out much/at all in recent years, so I am hugely out of the loop.

There’ll be people attending from north London and Hampshire, so central-ish would be good, but happy to go slightly East if that’s where the best places are these days.

Budget is around £50-60 per person on food (ie excluding drinks and service).

Thank you anyone in advance

I always like Skylon at the Festival Hall - the food's always good and the views are spectacular. Definitely £60+ each though.

I love Zedel

The brasserie at the oxo tower on the south bank is good.

Swan at the Globe is always good, and right on the river so lovely views too.

Hide in Piccadilly or the Wolseley next to the Ritz. I'm also a big fan of J Sheekey and the Ivy.

Frederick's in Islington

I love Zedel

Each to their own but I find Zedel to be very much the poor relation of its big brother, the Wolseley. It's much more 'mass market' where the food seems to be pre-prepared and microwaved to get a huge number of people in and out quickly.

Thanks so much everyone. I’ve been to a few of these before (ages ago) but will add them all to my list to research. Really appreciate it all.
I was a bit stuck before posting today as the only place I thought of turned out to have closed over a year ago….

Boccca di Lupo in Soho.

Medlar in Chelsea, bit of a walk from Sloane Square though. Lovely food and great service.

Brasserie top of oxo tower . Really lovely looking over Thames .

Seabird. Lovely, high up and you can sit outside if it's a nice day

FreiasBathtub · 27/05/2024 11:45

I love the German Gymnasium in Kings X and The Ninth in Fitzrovia (though this would be over budget unless you do a set lunch menu). Very different vibes/cuisines but both special. How many will you be? Some places will offer a special set menu or you might get better value from a private room/private dining?

Houseplantmad · 27/05/2024 11:47

Maison Francois just off Piccadilly- might be a bit over your budget though. Lovely service and food.

Lovely places but good luck spending less then £50 a head at any of them!

The Ned if you want brunch, the savoy grill if you want Sunday lunch

longdistanceclaraclara · 27/05/2024 12:19

Sorry just saw budget

Hide does a 3 course set lunch for £54 and the Wolseley for £33.75. The Wolseley is also within budget for al la Carte - starters £10-£15 and mains £20-30. The budget was excluding drinks and service.

Cattery · 27/05/2024 12:26

The Savoy Grill is amazing. Lovely chilled vibe and the service is as you’d expect

Pomegranatemum · 27/05/2024 12:50

Thanks all. There will only be 4 of us. I can stretch the budget a little, just conscious of the potential cost of alcohol and 12.5% service charge at most places. Definitely don’t want to go over £400 for 4 of us.

Oh Seabird does look lovely! Will need to check if our friends are keen on fish though…

I find the Wolseley overrated. The good thing about Zedel is the room and the overall building

PrettyPrettyPrettyyGood · 27/05/2024 19:33

The Delaunay on Aldwych, had a fab celebration lunch there recently.

ProverbialBoot · 12/06/2024 13:58

How about the Peter Pan afternoon tea at the Aqua Shard?
