Is Surbiton too posh for us?

I posted the exact same thread about Teddington a few weeks ago. We are expanding our search to other nearby areas and Surbiton came up in our radar so asking here about it too :)
Love the area and we are considering relocating there. We have 1 DD who will start primary next year.
Our budget will only stretch to a nice 2 bed flat or maisonette there, are we going to feel a bit out of place? It seems to be a really expensive area but we love it so much and has good schools and transports.
Anyone familiar with it who can help?

I don't think either Teddington or Surbiton are madly posh. Given the choice I would definitely move to Teddington. It's just a nicer place, more friendly feel, nice schools, nicer surrounding areas. Nobody will judge you for living in a flat in either location.

It's bedsitland unfortunately, with a lot of undesirable drug takers living there. But, you will get people with lots of different sides to the place

Surbiton isn’t that posh, I’d say it’s mixed. If you want areas lower down the posh scale than Surbiton, you’ve got Tolworth and Chessington. Kingston Hill tends to be a bit posher. Norbiton (Kingston Hill’s local train station) is right next to the Cambridge Estate, so I’d say there’s still a mix of economic status throughout really, like most of London/Greater London.

It’s got good transport links and is an ok place to live. We ended up travelling quite a bit on the train etc to do things in local areas, but that was quite nice. In regards to other areas, Chessington has a lovely woods in walking distance (towards Epsom). Lots of great charity shops including a kids one. Norbiton/Kingston Hill area is in very easy walking distance of Richmond park.

@ChaosAndCrumbs thank you. Defo don’t like Tolworth and Chessington, not nice and also not great train links so a bit pointless to be therr imo

@D1LL1GAF what is bedsitland?
We went a few times and found it lovely. Yes the high street has a mix of people on it although didn’t feel unsafe at all. Lots of independent cafes and restaurants, lovely riverside and a nice residential vibe, have I missed soemthing?

Agree completely. They're not particularly nice and the trains are a LOT less user friendly than Surbiton. A possibly less expensive (in some parts and/or more for your money) but more closely aligned to Surbiton area would be somewhere like Epsom/Ewell/Ashtead. But I think that Surbiton is more cosmopolitan, and that much closer to London which is nice.

I agree @PrincessBananaH , I always felt safe in Surbiton, including walking alone at night.

Surbiton is not posh. It has a great location, and great transport, which means the property prices are quite high.

It has a real mix of people, and great facilities, with the facilities of Kingston just down the road. So all in all a great location.

I don't know about the schools, but there seems to be an awful lot of them!
