How can I get someone to take away my adjustable bed and mattress?

Hello all,

I am getting rid of my adjustable bed and mattress as it has never suited me as I just sleep better when I am flat (despite having spent a lot of money on it, as well as more money on a new better mattress, so it is in very good condition and in working order). I am replacing it with a non-adjustable bed. However, although the company that I bought the new bed through originally told me they could remove my old bed, they now say they cannot remove adjustable beds. I tried the British Heart Foundation and they too said they cannot help. This is turning into a real hassle, can anyone help with any other options? I am elderly and so taking it downstairs to street level for the council to pick up is not an option (although there is a lift in my building for others to collect it).

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Put it on freecycle emphasising that whoever takes it will need to dismantle and remove it? We have got rid of loads of stuff this way.

Friend had this a few weeks ago. Got the council to collect it and just paid a handyman (or two) to drag it downstairs for her.

Have you asked the council for an assisted removal? Like they do for those that need help getting their bins outside?
Ring some 2nd hand furniture shops in your area
Advertise it on marketplace
Advertise it on freecycle or olio in your area
Join nextdoor.com in your area and advertise it on there or ask someone on there to help move it outside for collection
I lived between zone 1-2 for many years. If you could get it to the street- it will be collected within hours!

Beds are really difficult to get rid of. No-one wants them. I tried all the above suggested. In the end I found a small local charity, actually one I used to support but forgot about, and they came round and collected my brand new, practically unused single bed divan and a few bits of Ikea furniture. They were thrilled.

As an additional thought, as it's adjustable, I wonder whether any of the specific disability charities would collect, there must be a market for these.

if you just want rid of it and can afford to pay then either a man with a van or if you want more reassurance a company. I use Home - Junk IT (junk-it-scotland.com) and it would probably come into their £130 rate.

Thanks all, in the end none of the online marketplaces worked out for me, as no one responded to my posts. I'm surprised that something as expensive and specialised as an adjustable bed wouldn't be more in demand. @helpfulperson, your suggestion led me to Google people who remove junk and I found these guys, who were excellent, so efficient, reasonably-priced and didn't make a meal out of dismantling the electric base for the bed (the British Heart Foundation and the people delivering my new bed have refused to remove it because of this), in fact he did the job in a matter of minutes: https://junkbunk.co.uk/. Would definitely recommend them.

I'm glad you got it sorted OP. Did they charge you for removal, or pay you for it?

They charged me £120, not ideal, but I guess what else could I do, if no one else wanted it
