London Accomodation- Greenwich vs Finsbury Park

Hi,
Looking for some help. My son is moving to London in Sept to go to uni.
He's going to BIMM which is SW6 1EN Fulham.

In terms of accommodation options, he's got two:

iQ Flinders House in Greenwich SE10 0FQ. I can get a small studio there. I've read some good reviews about Flinders House, and Greenwich looks nice. Its 2 tube lines - Jubilee then District - 50 minutes away from uni.

The other option is an ensuite room in iQ Highbury which is in Finsbury park N7 7JR. This is two tubes Victoria then District - 42 minutes away from uni. I've read some really bad reviews about the noise from the train line which is right next to iQ Highbury.

The studio in Greenwich is £24 per week / £102 per month more than Finsbury park.

Anybody got any advice on these?
Any idea which is the best idea?
Is one better than the other?
Has anyone stayed at either of these?
Is the noise really bad at iQ Highbury?
What's the commute like from Greenwich to north of river - i've never really been south of river?

Thanks

If those are the only two options, the Finsbury park will be a lot easier commute on the Piccadilly line. Also a cooler fun area to be near to Islington and East London for his nights out. Greenwich is more beautiful but better for later in life and would be a bad commute to Fulham

Thanks for such a speedy reply. Living so far away from London, we are struggling to work out things.
When we looked on google maps Greenwich to Fulham was only 50 minutes (including walks to/from station) - Jubilee line, then District line.... Is it really a bad commute? - any advice would be great

It's miles away - there are lots of closer more convenient areas than Greenwich. Take a look on the Citymapper app - it will show you how to get around the city by lota of different methods.

To be honest there are lots of closer options, but he's left it so late to book everything reasonable priced has gone, and everything left is way to expensive for us.

In budget now, we've only found two options -

The one in Finsbury park - which it said was 42 mins away.... but the halls are literally right next to the train line and station - and has very bad reviews.

And the option in Greenwich... which looks alot furher away -but google maps says its 50mins

The area around Finsbury park station is rough but it's very convenient for everything. Going anywhere from Greenwich is a pita but it's a lot nicer re environment/safety etc. You really know you're in a city in Finsbury park. That can be a good thing or a bad thing.

Finsbury Park is amazingly well connected - two tubes, train and gazillions of buses. Greenwich isn't. It is also rough around the edges in parts, but not dangerous rough. As pp said - it feels like a city.

Greenwich is lovely but most students stay around the north London area because it's cheaper and well connected.

Looking at the map, that's right next to north Greenwich so he'd be easy for the tube, boats and the cable car. The night tube also runs there.

Finsbury Park would be slightly easier in terms of non commuting travel, night buses and the like, but I'd much rather be there than next to Finsbury Park tube.

Greenwich is much safer and less rough than Finsbury Park. Given his interests he might also find he's around a lot of other like minded students there too as he'll be quite near to Trinity Laban Conservatoire. I used to have flute lessons with a girl who studied there, her entire house and the ones on either side were all music students!

District line is painfully slow

That part of Greenwich isn't particularly near the touristy area of Greenwich between Cutty Sark and Greenwich Park at all. North Greenwich near the tube station is really a bit out of the way - good for supermarkets and IKEA but not exactly a vibrant area for student life.
