Hello, is anyone able to give me a rough idea of how much a taxi would cost from Kings Cross railway station to Hammersmith please? Thank you :-)

My Uber app said around £25 - 30 (depending on type of car, time of day).
Black cab will probably be more.

Any particular reason why you can't take the underground tube because it will be faster and way cheaper. Buy a zone 1 to 6 travel card for £14 and you can travel anywhere or tap with your bank card.

Probably around £40 plus. You're better off taking the tube. I know it's long but there's no connections. Think it'll take take around 30 min and from King's there's bound to be a train every 10mins ish.

Largely depends on time of day / traffic but I’d say anything from £25-£40

A much easier option is to get the Hammersmith and city line which is direct from Kings Cross St Pancras to Hammersmith

Thank you for your replies. I'm taking an elderly relative who is reluctant to use the underground so thought taxi would be our only option. We have to arrive into Kings Cross (no other options from where we're travelling from). There aren't any other options I've not thought about (bus) that would be cheaper than taxi are there? I'm not very familiar with London. Thank you!

There isn’t a straight bus journey but there is a straight tube journey to Hammersmith tube station on Hammersmith & city line (the station across the road from main tube station)
I would just get Uber if with elderly relative, much easier and can take you straight to wherever you need to go in Hammersmith itself.

Needmorelego · 11/04/2023 10:34

@midnightmoon8 Bus would take ages.
I would definitely get taxi. Costs more but is less stressful.

BuffaloCauliflower · 11/04/2023 10:35

If you got the tube the Hammersmith and City line is generally quieter, and arrives in Hammersmith at ground level so no stairs/lifts at that end, and there is also step free access (lifts) from Kings Cross trains to the tube. So you wouldn’t need to do much more walking than if you came out of Kings Cross and got a taxi. A lot of it is also above ground, so feels more like a regular train (some is underground though)

A black cab would be easiest but is very expensive. Uber is your next best bet but you’d need to be able to use the app.

Thanks so much! You're all so kind helping with these suggestions. Many thanks - really appreciate it :-)

I agree that the tube will be really easy, especially if travelling off peak. There's lifts at all levels at Kings X and a H&C Line train will take you straight there, mostly above ground.

What is it about the tube journey are they worried about? We may be able to allay their fears

Good luck, navigating London with an elderly person can be, quite stressful!

Fannyinfinefettle · 11/04/2023 10:40

I'd say between £30 and £40. The last couple of years I've had to take cabs when in London as illness/disability has meant I can't risk being trapped in the tube with no access to a toilet, so I can understand reluctance to use the tube. There's no getting away from the fact that cabs are expensive though, and often excruciatingly slow because of the traffic.

maltravers · 11/04/2023 10:56

The Piccadilly line (the navy blue line) runs directly from Kings Cross to Hammersmith. You would need any westbound service on this line, probably signposted terminating at Heathrow. There is step free/disabled access. It runs more frequently than the H&C line. A black cab will be very expensive (Uber would be cheaper) and a bus very slow. Good luck, I hope your trip goes well.
