Electoral Register & living in partners council flat

Hello just looking for advice,
I recently moved out of my shared rented property and in with my partner to his council flat (single father two kids),
I have now received the electoral register email telling me to register. I am wondering if I register at his address will the council look into it? Investigate etc. Will there be penalties? I’m not from the UK so I can’t just register at a family members address.

grateful for any help.

TIA

Does he receive any benefits that are based on household income?
If you are moving in and your income is making the combined household income higher then he may lose some benefits.
If he doesn't get any income based benefits then it won't affect anything.
The only other thing is I assume he gets the 25% single person Council Tax reduction - he will need to get that stopped because he is no longer the only adult living there.

Your income will now be considered when his benefits are worked out. And vice versa.

If you share a home then you are treated as having joint finances

You living there could affect his benefits if he gets any. However, claiming benefits he's not actually entitled to would be fraud. You (or possibly more accurately the householder) are legally obligated to register your true place of residence on the electoral roll. If you register at another address then at some point the householder there will have to formally confirm that ,so you'd be making them complicit.

The pair of you need to decide if you want to operate within the law or not.

If you are not from the UK then you should not join the electoral register. You don't have the right to vote.

As for whether there is any impact of you moving in then that would only be if he is claiming any benefits as a single person and hasn't declared he is no longer single.

As English may not be your first language can I just ask if you meant to sound as dodgy (fraudulent, deceitful, cheating, up to no good)?

My apologies if that is not your intention. I just wonder why you are so concerned about 'investigation' from council.

I’m an Irish citizen so I do have the right to vote in this case, I got an email asking me to 😢 thank you c

English is my first language by the way, I’m an Irish citizen. Are you sure English is yours as those are some very hyperbolic words to describe me and this situation. Have a day off.
