Commuting to New Street Square?

Friend is transferring to an office in London for her job and is looking for advice on areas.

Her office is based on New Street Square and she's had a quick look on maps, looks like the Thameslink, Blackfriars and Chancery Lane are the nearest stations to the office.

Her budget is for a flat (1 or 2 bed) and is about 660k and she doesn't mind a 40min commute. Any recommendations? I don't know London at all so said I'd post this and let her know about any replies.

Exciting for her!

London is huge and every district has its own character.

She can look at the journey planner on the TfL.gov site to get an idea of journey times.

What are her interests? If she likes shopping and going to the theatre, for example, she'll probably prefer to be to the west.

And where is her home town? She might want to consider ease of travel when going to visit parents, for example, so if she'll be wanting to travel north out of London she might want to be nearer King's X/Euston.

She might also want to consider whether she wants to travel in by Tube or train, what alternative routes are available if there are problems on her usual route, cost of commuting vs cost of housing, local amenities such as parks, etc.

Can she make contact with the people she'll be working with to ask for suggestions?

@DameAlyson thanks so much, I'll pass all this on to her. I'm so excited for her!

She mentioned she doesn't want to be somewhere REALLY busy as wants a bit of respite when not at work. Still wants some buzz, just not absolutely heaving/really central.

Thanks for advice re the journey planner, I'll tell her to take a look.

It would be the tube/train to commute in and she would be flying home so doesn't need to be near a motorway out of London or anything.

Farringdon Station could be another option for her commute, especially with Crossrail coming.

I've just had a quick look on Rightmove, and with that budget, she might even be able to get something within walking distance of the office, or a short bus ride away.

Farringdon also a nearby station so could look at areas on lines into there.

Thank you, I've mentioned Farringdon to her now as well.

Obviously not sure who she’d be working for in nss, but lots are now wfh in that area, with not much intention on being back in the office full time.

I work in New Street Square. I commute in from Blackheath, which is 20 minutes from Charing Cross then another 10 minute walk to the office. Have a look at Blackheath, Hither Green and Greenwich.

I’d probably go for somewhere along the Central Line into Chancery Lane. That’s currently my commute. I work nearby.
