I’ve just found out about The Mayor of Scaredy Cat town, a bar that you enter via The Breakfast Club which I would have LOVED to explore and will do one day when child free (over 18’s only Sad)

This then got me thinking of any hidden gems you’ve discovered and stumbled upon? Any you can recommend which would be good for a teenager too.

As we might be heading over there while it’s quiet (ish) thought it might be the prime time to explore the lesser known places, secret places, as we’ve visited many of the usual tourist attractions.

@BikeRunSki, they recently had a lot of money put in , lottery funding I assume, and did a complete refurb so all very smart now. Well worth a visit if you ever come down South.

A fantastic thread!

For those interested in law The Royal Courts of Justice are beautiful for a wander for free. You can take a peep into the Court rooms to see their majesty but can’t sit in the hearings as they are private. Then walk down Chancery Lane and pop into Wildy and sons for an oldy worldly law bookshop. Knights Templar pub round the corner for good food and drink.

Sitting in the public gallery at the Old Bailey is fascinating and free. Aim for Court number 1.

I used to like wandering around The Southbank Centre, especially on Sundays as there were often free concerts.
Museum of Childhood, Bethnal Green
There used to be big designer sales in the hall on Kensington High Street.

One further museum is Handel and Hendrix just off Oxford Street - one house is set up for as Handel has it and the next door house is a museum to Hendrix. If you are lucky you might catch some professional musicians rehearsing in the room where Handel wrote Messiah as the museum offers free rehearsal space in order to have some live music going on.

Imperial war museum is good.

I wasn't that impressed by the Wellcome near Euston, I went in with DD and the exhibitions were most definitely not suitable for a child!

For my money the most amazing exhibit in any London museum is the scruffy plywood model of the Iranian Embassy which the SAS knocked up in a hurry in order to plan their assault (Imperial War Museum).

Don't forget Open House is coming up in a couple of weeks website here. It's a bit restricted due to COVID, but usually you can go and see all manner of wonderful buildings and infrastructure sites.

The Royal Exchange is a magnificent building. It also used to be magnificent for dining but got spoilt when they closed the posh restaurant upstairs and reduced the tables downstairs. I don't know if it's open but well worth a visit. Combine with Bank of England and Leadenhall Market

I want to see that!

I remember the siege!
