Any London MNetters who can advise on the best way to take a boat to Greenwich please?

Would be grateful for any advice on this. I have googled but it’s confusing with different operators. Which is the best? And do you think this is something that will appeal to 14-year DD ? How long do we need for the outing?

Thanks in advance for any help.

tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/
go to Edit Preferences, and de-select everything except River Bus.

Thames Clippers are probably easiest. Link here to routes & timetables. And I expect your DD would like it, especially if it's a boat with outside seats.

from where?
thames clipper river boats are good, can be used with (tfl) oyster card.
but they don't give a running commentary.

How long you need depends on where you're starting from. If you opt for the Thames Clipper, it has various calling points along the river. And also whether you want to spend any time at Greenwich.

The main difference is between the boats aimed at tourists, which will have some kind of commentary on the route, and the Thames Clipper, which is more of a commuter service for local people. No commentary on those, but comfortable boats with coffee bar. All are likely to be busy.

Thames Clipper timetables are on the tfl.gov website, I think. They're quite frequent.

Many thanks for these replies - they’re very useful.

We’re in North London so can Tube to anywhere along the river and take the boat from there.

In your opinions, is it worth forking out extra for the tourist boats with commentary? Or is it pretty self evident as to what we’re passing ?

And last question: do the Thames river clippers have outside seats please ?

Thanks again!

is it worth forking out extra for the tourist boats with commentary Depends on how much you know about the river, they do tend to slip in the odd quirky bit on information.
If you know when you are travelling it's worth checking out the tide, the journey time can vary quite a lot if you are running against it.

Some clippers have outside seats, some don't. And yes, that's a good point about the commentary.

A few years ago I caught the clipper from Greenwich to Tower Bridge at night, with everything lit up, and that was amazing.

The Thames clipper child rate is for 5 to 15 y.o.

You could take the northern line and pick up Thames Clipper at Embankment, Southbank (London Eye) or London Bridge. I prefer Embankment as it's very easy from tube to pier and the longest trip (just). Go to O2 and have a ride on the cable car

I realise it's a month after you asked but Thames Clippers offer free travel at weekends for kids during September, up to age 15 www.thamesclippers.com/whats-on-discounts/kids-go-free
