Posh child free weekday lunch deal in the West End

DH and I will have a couple of random days off together and I fancied doing a grown-ups lunch on one of them. Any recommendations? Budget is unlimited (we won’t be drinking more than a glass each so can afford to slash out on food) but if there’s anywhere that does a very good value lunch deal that would be cool - I love a bargain. Any cuisine considered.

That's an odd concept though Confused

"Budget is unlimited (we won’t be drinking more than a glass each so can afford to slash out on food)"

But

"but if there’s anywhere that does a very good value lunch deal that would be cool - I love a bargain"

What do you want? Somewhere rather nice and luxurious, or somewhere cheap and cheerful?

ElanorGamgee · 24/02/2018 18:36

My favourite child free lunch in London is here. Of course you have to like curry. It has just been revamped/rebranded but I expect it will be just as good as before. The Chef's tasting menu is great.

OutsideContextProblem · 24/02/2018 20:57

I want (ideally) somewhere really great and top end that does a great value mid week lunch deal. So not cheap cheap, but a bargain for the quality you get.

Indian accent is a case in point - 45 quid a head for the lunchtime tasting menu is in no way cheap and cheerful, but it’s a comparative bargain. I’ll give it a look thanks.

Ivy market Grill Covent Garden great value for really good food, or set menu at Cote is excellent vfm.

MakeLemonade · 24/02/2018 21:17

I would go for Pollen Street Social, great set lunch menu and a good atmosphere.

LockedOutOfMN · 24/02/2018 21:23

Hawksmoor Express menu, or the set menu at Paternoster Chop House, which is very good value. Or a special offer at the Bistro at the Bleeding Heart. All delicious.

Davros · 24/02/2018 23:14

Roux at the Landau at The Langham. Their set menu has 5 choices per course.

Browns on St Martin's lane or the Criterion

Lenny1980 · 25/02/2018 07:17

Most of the top end restaurants do good value lunch menus so there’s lots of choice that should suit you. Any of the Jason Atherton places are usually pretty good. What area were you thinking?

Nakedavenger74 · 25/02/2018 07:43

The Ivy Brasserie on Broadwick Street.

CoffeeOrSleep · 25/02/2018 07:48

For fancy, child free romantic lunch in London, DH and I have gone to Clos Maggoire (just by Covent Garden) couple of times, but not sure what it's like price wise.

ibuiltahomeforyou · 25/02/2018 08:30

@PanPanPanPing it's not that hard to understand, OP clearly wasn't choosing between a Boots meal deal or The Ivy.

FWIW OP I'd go to Le Gavroche (Michel Roux Jr's place), they do a highly rated lunchtime set menu for about £30.

ImListening · 25/02/2018 08:33

Was coming on here to say La Gavroche or bleeding heart! Also Oblix - if only for the views. I’ve not been to the other Shard restaurants so don’t know what they are like.

JackieReacher · 25/02/2018 08:33

LebGavroche seconded! Or the wolesey for the stunning room

Giraffesarequitetall · 25/02/2018 08:39

Have done Le Gaveoche in the evening for the full taster menu at around £500 for two and also the lunchtime deal which is actually £70 each for theee courses including some drinks. We preferred the lunch!

We have also been to Gordon’s ramsey’s Petrus and had an amazing lunch. I think that was about £100 for two not including drinks.

Friends have been to Cloe Maggiore and recommended it too.

Giraffesarequitetall · 25/02/2018 08:39

Clos Magiorre not Cloe!

OutsideContextProblem · 25/02/2018 09:00

Le Gavroche is a great idea - I’ve never been but it never crossed my mind as an option because it’s so old that I’d mentally classified it as “things people did in the 90s”. Not sure I’d be able to get a table at 2 weeks notice though, but I’ll give it a go.

I’d feel a bit mean at doing the Shard without the DC.

Yes 2 weeks notice may be a challenge. We booked 90 days in advance by queuing on the phone at 9am!! Petrus was a lot easier to book, different but just as nice.

Davros · 26/02/2018 09:39

Grazing Goat?
Chiltern Firehouse?
I wouldn't go to an Ivy Brasserie because they are now a big chain and nothing special imo
