Free things to do in London with a very poorly teen?

My son in currently in hospital, he's quite unwell and we will be here for a long time.
He's 13 and we're hours away from home and family and normality.
I'm hoping he can start to get out and about tomorrow so I'm looking for very cheap or free things to do. We visited the museums last time we were here so might do that again but I'm looking for other ideas. Smile

Some places will let you in for free as a carer, so you might just need to pay for him.

Hi titsalina - don't know if you recognise my mumsnet name but we are mayster buddies. There's a Facebook group called kidadl that's great for day out ideas in London and around. I'd recommend joining and posting for ideas

Tits nothing constructive to add I'm afraid but just wanted to wish your lad all the very best . Your user name always makes sense me smile and I usually like your posts so I'm very sorry to hear you've got a poorly one.

Good point about the carer shouldwestay - we've used that perk a few times

If it's your son + parent essential carer then London Zoo would be £18 total (bit cheaper after 1st Nov as it's winter) www.zsl.org/zsl-london-zoo/visitor-information/entry-costs

Londonist also has good listings of free and cheap things to do each week londonist.com/free-and-cheap-things-to-do-in-london

British Library

Tate Modern / Tate Britain

National Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

On nice days, the parks like St James's are wonderful to wander around

Houses of Parliament (your MP may be able to get you tickets to watch a debate or two if you can figure out the mobility side, but it's free to go into Westminster Hall and Central Lobby)

Going across the wobbly bridge and along the South Bank to watch the buskers and artists

Did you manage to get out and about OP?

You are not far from the Chelsea Physic Garden for lovely plants and workshops.

Nor from the National Army Museum

www.nam.ac.uk/

Battersea Park (somebody suggested it much earlier) is really good and has a very small zoo now; not too tiring if child is not well.

Check out the Faraday Museum for science not far from Berkeley Square.

Much further and depends on how your son feels, you could try Kew Gardens (the Hive) .

Good luck

The Gadget Shop on Fulham Road is amazing - hop on the 14 bus. There’s a great bookshop called Nomad Books nearby and plenty of cafes for cakes and hot chocolate.

Good luck OP x
