Teaching my child to drive

My dd is learning to drive and has had a few lessons, I'm more than happy to take her out as I feel like she is more than capable to drive without an instructor, however me and dh were discussing weather if was allowed to do this, or if there is a law against this during lockdown? Anyone have any thoughts on this

I think you need to ask your insurance company if she'll be covered.

As long as she is 17, has a provisional licence and the car is insured for her to drive it, there's no problem.

I did the same with my son. You do need nerves of steel! He had about 12 hours with an instructor and the rest with me. He passed 1st time about 8 months ago.

Thank you both x

@Chocolatear but that wasn't during lockdown. At the start of lockdown I don't think we weren't supposed to be drinking around unnecessarily, but obvious things have changed and we can drive as much as we want to. We need to reapply for DSs provisional as they sent his application back unprocessed (I'm not sure why they didn't just hold on to it) or I would have been asking the same question, except he hasn't had any professional lessons yet.

Perfect time to learn to drive. It's best to get used to the controls of the car on a quiet industrial estate, before you pay for expensive lessons. But with the quieter roads you can do this for even longer.

Haha! Sorry so many typos Blush

Here in Aus kids have to do 120 hours on their Ls before they can take their test. They can do ten hours with an instructor that is counted as 3 hours for every hour, after that it's 1:1 (and lessons are expensive) so that is a LOT of driving with parents. DD is currently on 42 hours, I hate it!

It's a non essential journey for us (Scotland)
