Hi
DC1 is 7, nearly 8 and hates being taught by me or OH. It gets too fraught. Bright. Articulate. Loves being read to. Loves audible. Doesn't want to read unless bribed. Huge imagination but finds writing difficult. For various reasons which we hope to address. Seen an OT. Had a plan for school..... but out the window due to lockdown! In the meantime want to encourage use of that big imagination. Eg have shown that short stories can be dictated on the iPad and then corrected by hand. (DC1 was excited by this!)
I've been looking for tools to support learning and development which don't rely on me or OH getting too involved.....

Has anyone tried Mrs Wordsmith for year 3 and up? Any good? Worth the money?

Any other tools you might recommend for encouraging writing / story telling / vocabulary acquisition?
TIA

What about Wordshark?
I think that is like Mrs Wordsmith. Basically that is a fun computer program designed to improve general literacy skills in dyslexic kids. Try it out and see if you like it or not. There are some games he also might enjoy too which can also be played. Does he have dyspraxia and dyslexia?
If so then you may wish to request a proper formal assessment to be done by a qualified educational psychologist. Nessy is good for dyslexic children. So is Toe by Toe. I also recommend talking to the school. Speak with his teacher. The Orton- Gillingham method may also help him too. I hope this is useful! Good luck. Hopefully you can get some help soon.

Thank you. Will take a look.
He js been assessed for OT and on the wait list for ADHD. However I'm not convinced that is the problem at all.
OT was very helpful and we had a plan which has fallen by the wayside as the plan had only just been issued when we went into lock down!

we've got mrs wordsmith - both dc love them (we've got it for the older and younger ones), I wouldn't say there's a lot in it that they can do independently though, the word of the day and the books you have to do together but I do like it and find it useful.

It's a bit overpriced but most of the home learning box type things (one third stories etc) are pricey. You can do a word of the day yourself but I'm not sure you'll find such good picture and story explanations elsewhere - my DD really liked the characters and that helped hook her.

I've bought nearly everything they do in fact because my younger one likes the picture explanations so much.
