Year 2 and preschool. How long each day

How long each day are people spending on pure learning? I have a year 2 and a Kindergarten/pre school (and a baby). I reckon I’m spending the max of 1 and a half hours with them on teaching each day and then they are spending about 1 hr more doing online lessons. It’s not enough is it? I don’t want to do them a disservice

It's plenty. They don't really need sit down learning at that age. You just need to provide a stimulating environment. Talk to them, read to them, count things, explain things, let them help with cooking and laundry, have a variety of toys for them to play with, limit screen time to a reasonable amount.

My dd is P3 which I think is equivalent to year 2. We are doing half an hour of literacy and half an hour of numeracy. The rest of the day is spent either baking, doing crafts, housework and just playing together. We do read a chapter of a book together at night and she usually goes on sumdog or education city for approx half an hour as well. I am not putting pressure on myself or dd to recreate school this is an unprecedented situation and I am trying to make it as stress free as possible for us.

That's fine. I have similar age kids. That's about what I'm doing too. I'm a teacher.

DS year 3. School have sent home 4 hours a day. It’s too much at the moment.
We do one English and one maths task, 45 minutes each. 15 minutes times tables, 20 minutes reading, 15 minutes guitar practice.
That seems to be the most I can get out of him.

MerryDeath · 28/03/2020 19:04

the only way my DS will sit down is if it's to study a plate of well cooled roast potatoes

We have a year 5, year 3 and a toddler.

We are doing a max of 1 HR per day...some maths, some spellings and a.n. other topic. Rest of the time has been spent in the garden, it playing etc.

They read anyway.

We do 6 10-15 minutes blocks, and 2 20-30 minutes blocks: reading, spelling, writing, maths, timetables, music, and 2 (longer slots) activities set by school.
