Birthday party ideas please

Ds is turning 5 in April, more than likely we will still be in lockdown so no birthday party with his friends this year 😞 has anyone got any fun/creative ideas to make the day special for him still whilst being home just the 4 of us?

let him have a crazy breakfast, eg hotdogs or ice cream

have a treasure hunt for his presents

facetime a few friends

classic games, eg pin the tail on the donkey

go on a 'treasure walk': print out this list and whilst you are out walking have him check the things off the list

all the best and happy birthday to your ds!

Thankyou for your ideas @sleepismysuperpower1. He's just realised that he won't be having a party or even seeing friends and he got upset 😢 so want to make his day as fun and special as possible.

Drive-by birthday parade - set a day and time slot, and ask friends to drive past in their cars to wish DS a happy birthday - they could decorate their cars and play music, wave etc (and maybe drop a present).

Obviously necessitates the family owning a car..

browzingss · 24/03/2020 18:33

I think you have it easy personally, because you can still celebrate at home and make it special for him. Order nice presents/games/food, decorate the house and surprise him?

It’s my birthday next month but as someone in their early 20s I can’t really invite my partner or friends over or go out etc so it will be a pretty depressing day!

AnotherEmma · 24/03/2020 18:35

Oh come on. I can't believe you're doing competitive self pity against a 5 year old!

Everytimeref · 24/03/2020 18:36

We celebrated my mum's 75th last week virtually via What'sapp. It was fun. 4 groups of us singing Happy Birthday was very funny due to time lag. If you want a larger group use Zoom

AFollowing closely as in same position with my soon to be 4 year old DD.
We are planning special birthday breakfast, open and play with presents. We are all going to dress up as she was meant to be having a fancy dress party then a picnic lunch in garden if it's dry. I've ordered some outdoor games for us to play (those sticky bats and balls etc) and thinking about a piñata too as she says she wanted one for her party. Then planning to play Disney songs and dance about and watch her favourite film.
What about asking friends to make wee video messages? A treasure hunt around house to find presents?

Monstermummymum · 24/03/2020 18:51

Following for my three year old 😊I'm going to set him up a huge digger tuff tray small.world do a treasure hunt if chocolate coins and have a 'tea party' with the four of us.

@AnotherEmma I'm sure that doesn't count as one of the 4 reasons the government has said we shouldn't be leaving the house!
He will enjoy whatever you do, I think getting people to FaceTime is a lovely idea, maybe at the same time so you can do his cake and sing happy birthday Smile

AnotherEmma · 24/03/2020 19:04

Meh. If people stay in their cars I don't see the big deal.

Cornettoninja · 24/03/2020 19:06

@browzingss - group Skype pub quiz? Drinking games could be fun if that’s your thing.

SquashedSpring · 24/03/2020 19:09

Could you write him a little story about him and his friends having an adventure or something and read it to him on his birthday? You can drop in all sorts of familiar things and references and make them seem exciting, or write in one of his birthday presents.

My DC never mention their past birthday parties, but they still talk about the stories I wrote them from years ago.

popgoesperfection · 24/03/2020 20:05

Thankyou for some lovely ideas everyone !! Will definitely be speaking to his close friends on FaceTime so could sing happy birthday altogether!! A story is a nice idea too, especially as he's enjoying practicing his writing at home ☺️ the family dressing up idea is a good one, how would love that !!! @browzingss it's not that easy when a 4 year old doesn't understand why he can't see his friends, why we can't go out as we would normally and socialise, even though I've explained it to him but his young mind doesn't process things as a grown ups does!
