I have 3 children.
One is Year 3 - lots of nice ideas for projects and some worksheets and stuff to do. fine.
One is Year 6 - absolute shedload of work including SATs practice papers, CGP books and a suggested timetable.
The other one is Year 8 - a crappy sheet of A4 paper with some 'useful websites' on - bitesize, national geographic kids (he is 13 ffs!) etc.

Now I know you could argue that at 13 he should be able to self-motivate and take responsibility for his own learning, but I'm a bit disappointed that teachers have not provided anything more structured. I work in a school and I know how crazy the past few days have been but the Year 6 and Year 8 are in the same school - middle school system here - so that makes it even harder to justify the discrepancy.

Just wait.

This week has been awful. We’ve been open until Friday with massive staff shortages and very worried children. When were staff supposed to put together a comprehensive package of home learning?

I’m surprised that someone working in a school doesn’t get this. I’m guessing you’re not a teacher.

PurpleDaisies · 21/03/2020 17:41

Think about it.

Year 3 : stuff all over Twinkl. Easy to print.
Year 6 : SATs. Masses of resources.
Year 8 : ??????

disconnecteddrifter · 21/03/2020 17:44

Er its saturday . I'm working in Sunday to set work. What do you expect? It's like you think teachers are your personal slaves ffs

Keepcalmanddoyourbit · 21/03/2020 17:50

I work in a school and I know how crazy the past few days
Not as a teacher I imaginer Hmm
Oh FFS give the bloody teachers a chance. Schools closed on Friday with two days notice and no idea about KW student numbers for next week until yesterday. We've still had normal lessons to teach and all the usual day to day stuff while trying to trying to start planning weeks worth of work AND on top of an almost 30% reduction in staff. Schools have also been trying to sort out vouchers for FSM kids

ps SATS have been cancelled

Just be patient for a short while FGS Angry

Please dont be one of 'those' parents

Soubriquet · 21/03/2020 17:52

Nope

DC’s school popped round two lots of folders yesterday full of school work for them to do.

I don’t know if more will come, but there’s plenty there for now

Reception child and year 2 child

Year 11 son . Received work packs in the post today for him to study and answer the questions that are in them.

Letseatgrandma · 21/03/2020 18:11

The schools only closed on Friday FFS.

JJPC · 21/03/2020 18:13

We have very little yet. I suspect the teachers will update us day to day online as we have a school website log in to use.
They were still having to teach as normal last week and were trying to put plans in place with very little notice. I think we have to cut them some slack

PotteringAlong · 21/03/2020 18:14

We are sending work out to our classes daily. So, at the moment, my year 8 classes have bugger all.

But at 9am on Monday 5 emails will be sitting in the inbox of every one of the 1400 students in my school from their teachers for that day directing them to what to do. And it will be like that every school day until we reopen.

Stellaris22 · 21/03/2020 18:15

We have a folder of resources and an online classroom set up.

But think about how absolutely difficult it is to be a teacher right now. The stress and uncertainty of so many factors.

Give teachers and school time, children at home aren't forgotten. Please don't hassle them and add to their workload.

suitcaseofdreams · 21/03/2020 18:15

We (yr 4) just have list of useful websites for now

School have said that after Easter weekly work packs will be sent out electronically and all teachers (who are well enough) will be monitoring progress and available for advice etc

I will be doing the absolute minimum with my twins these next two weeks - some reading and maybe times tables. Then we’ll have Easter holidays (although not quite the caravan park holiday we were planning!) and then we’ll get on with the work packs

It’s been a very unsettling time (especially for my autistic anxious one) and I think we need some time to adjust

Schools have also had very little time to prepare for this and I think we do need to cut them some slack :-)

Lindor · 21/03/2020 18:33

What Pottering said.
At my (secondary) school We are setting work via google classroom. For my classes I have managed to get work for Monday and Tuesday sorted, and it is scheduled to appear on their google classroom on the morning I’d be teaching them.

Very little in terms of actual "stuff" to do at present - lots of lovely suggested very adult heavy activities... not the greatest for those working from home.

Quite disillusioned with our usually lovely infant school who seem to have washed their hands completely of the kids at home - any update consists of them telling us what they're doing with the keyworker children in school and not even checking in on the at-home-kids. I think the Head's misjudged that one pretty terribly to be fair.

DD is in Y1 and the resources consist of about 6 downloads that you need a special app on a computer to print, that aren't at her level.
Thank goodness we have a Reading Chest subscription anyway, and some workbooks, we are moving on to Twinkl for the rest of the week and then having Easter holidays. School have a reputation for assuming we all have the same IT anyway so we aren't hopeful after that.

BeardedMum · 01/04/2020 08:51

None and especially disappointed for my children in Y12 and Y13. Nothing at all!! The schools in my home country are operating practically as normal with lessons online and online teaching and have for weeks. My nephew who is 13 is logging on at 8:30 every morning and being taught until 2 pm.
My 13 year old has had a couple of things posted on google classroom.
We wfh more than full time and no way we can suddenly start home schooling.

hairycabbage · 01/04/2020 08:56

Year 2: some worksheets sent home
Year 7: work being set on Show My Homework each day and encouraged to read lots
Year 11: absolutely nothing. They've confirmed that they expect year 11 students to do no work unless they wish to voluntarily start researching their A level choices

Snausage · 01/04/2020 09:07

My DS (YR) was sent home with a "learning log" on the Wednesday before the schools closed, in anticipation. It has lots of things to do in it. It also had the log in details for Spelling Shed and Mathletics, and his teacher is setting them tasks every day.
The school has set up a new Facebook page and is very active on it. All classes are using Google Classroom to set work, and there is lots of motivation for all the kids. Our school has been absolutely brilliant.

ChloeDecker · 01/04/2020 13:04

I can understand nothing set or not a lot set for those in Year 11 and 13 but for those in Year 12, have you emailed the school and received confirmation that Year 12 in your school is to do nothing, have you checked your junk email and have you checked the school website?
I don’t mean to sound patronising but I have had many parents say nothing has been set from my school (on Facebook community groups) and it turns out that the above was not carried out in those cases (plus one child who had lied that nothing had been set, in the hope of not having to do any work, ha ha!)
If you have had actual written confirmation from the school itself that nothing has been set for a Year 12 student, then I would email in a formal complaint.
