Hiya, we are moving to East Sheen Parkside end of June and would like advice on the following please:

  • Surgery
  • Dentist
  • Vet
  • Babysitter
  • ... and where do mums get together for coffee. We have a 1 year old DS.

Also any running or fit classes that I can join with or without my DS?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Sheen Lane Health Centre has some good doctors and are great with getting last minute appointments for the children. As for coffee meeting places, Costa or Cafe Nero seem to be the most spacious for prams. The Victoria is also a good meeting place for coffee or a drink.

Richmond Park also use to run buggyfit type classes.

Enjoy East Sheen!!! Can i suggest getting his name down for a local preschool ASAP ??

pastaMum · 23/05/2010 22:29

Thanks mummyquilliam and may19 for both your messages.

DS is signed up for Rainbow, St. Mary Magdalen and The Vicarage. Any other that I should consider??

We've been at The Victoria's and loved it.

Good suggestion - will Google for buggyfit in Richmond Park. Used to go to buggyfit in Bath and it was fun.

Both practices at the health centre on sheen lane are excellent and becasue they have so many doctors run lots of different clinics (minor ops etc) and can have bloods taken there rather than going to th ehospital.

Vet Mr lP Andre on Kew road in Richmond is fantastic and reasonably prices ( recommended to me by Cat protection leagie and they were right)

My dentist (David Callaghma) on North Road, Kew is brilliant but expensive.

pastaMum · 24/05/2010 09:39

Kewcumber: good to know re minor ops and blood tests. Good dentists never seem to be cheap!!

Any ideas where to go for yoga? Ashtanga preferably. Thanks!

Can't wait to move and hopefully still be able to enjoy the park with this wonderful weather.

I've used the Sheen Dental Practice but found them to be cowboys. They left me in a lot of pain and said it was going to cost me £5,000 to fix it!
I know use the Park Dental centre - they're not as flash, but their cheaper and more ethical.

pastaMum · 25/05/2010 14:23

Thanks rewardgirl... I alway cringe at the idea of trying out
a new dentist, so I appreciate your feedback.

my eldest went to Rainbow and loved it. Have also heard great things about Vicarage and Mrs Kapper's (sp.?) on St Leonard's rd.

Completely agree with rewardgirl's comments about dentists.

re: exercise, Bank of England sports centre (need to go on membership list but thanks to recession much shorter now!) is fab for kids and does some good yoga classes too.

If you are wanting your ds to go to Sheen Mount then the Vicarage is lovely because virtually all of the kids there move on to reception at Sheen Mount. Mrs Cappers is called Parkway and is also a sweet little preschool. Very homelike.

castlesintheair · 27/05/2010 14:18

A lot of my mates go here, just down the road in Richmond yoga

DD2 goes to Rainbow. It is excellent.

pastaMum · 10/06/2010 09:47

thanks all for you messages. For some reason I was unable to log in for a few days.

Will try out Richmond Yoga and Bank of England sports centre... and keep my fingers crossed for the nurseries.

No one mentioned St Mary Magdalene (Montessori). Is it because of the distance or that is religious? I read god reviews about it online.

19 days and counting for the big move... can't wait! I think it might be wise to ask neighbours if they can allow space for the removal lorry as the Council will not reserve a space. Anyone had issues with parking space while moving? Have anyone contacted the neighbours for this? Or should I just relax....

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 13/06/2010 10:28

I think they will only reserve a space if its residents parking or similar - just let neighbours know and put a few bins out - most people don't seem to mind for a day - they've all had to move in at some point! Mortlake Montessori seems good (tbh I haven't found a montessori that wasn't) a friend sent her DD there. No personal experience though. DOn;t think the montessori is particularly religious - its not linked to the catholic school.

pastaMum · 14/06/2010 11:30

thanks Kewcumber, that's good to know in case we do not get into Rainbow or Vicarage.

I'm also moving to East Sheen - end of July. For vets, I can recommend Vets @ White Hart Lane in Barnes, they've looked after my parents pets for years and are really good

pastaMum · 17/06/2010 18:59

Thanks PenandLola, I will try them out. Good luck with your move!!
