Does anyone know what this school is like since joining parkside federation?

afaik you can pretty much consider them the same school as parkside - all the management, etc is the same. No direct experience though, just what I've heard on the teachers grapevine.

Better than it was - speaking as someone who used to work then when it was really 'bad'. However, the head teacher is an arse.

Earthstar · 27/04/2010 19:15

Sounds like you are not too impressed coolma? Is it the head of Coleridge you don't rate or the head of the Parkside School Federation?

Head of fed - I may be being unfair but I found him a complete little weasel - more concerend with his results than the students. One of the first things he did on taking coleridge over was to ship out the 'problem students' (and me as I was working with them...) to other schools and move in some carefully selected parkside students. ARSE!

Vallhala · 27/04/2010 20:46

My friend's children went there for about a year and left owing to a move a few months ago. I have to say that she wasn't impressed. Her son, a bright, cheeky but inoffensive 13yo was bullied and the school didn't handle it very well in her opinion and her 14yo daughter, a shy, quiet girl, was quite unhappy there.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. I think it may be fair to say that it will be a while yet before Parkside's influence and assistance makes any mark on Coleridge.

Oh dear, not sounding too positive a reaction. I was wondering how much of a turnaround there had been with the new head and whether Coleridge or netherhall would be the better option to pick for next year.

My ds is due to go to secondary school next year too - and our choices are pretty much Coleridge or netherhall...I really don't know what to do! Just going through the total trauma of not getting dd into primary of our choice and have to got hrough it all again next year!!

Do you need to be central? Would you have any chance with one of the outlying village colleges (Sawston, say, should be reachable by bus)? I know they tend to be oversubscribed, but I believe a friend's child does go to Sawston despite being well out of catchment.

Lilymaid · 29/04/2010 10:54

If you are near Hills Road/A1307/bus stop for 13 bus you could also consider Linton Village College but that is generally more oversubscribed than Sawston (due to out of county applications from Haverhill area).

coolma · 29/04/2010 17:48

I went to Linton Best five years of my life.

Earthstar · 29/04/2010 18:32

Wow, I hadn't considered Linton or Sawston...thanks for the ideas

I am near to Hills Rd - maybe I should take a look further afield! It puts me off that dd won't have friends in walking distance though if we go down that path.

Doesn't matter too much if you're the one in town, as the outlying village kids'll all come in by bus every weekend to blue £6.50 at Primark!

Earthstar · 01/05/2010 10:53

Good point Lancelottie!
Might be harder to got to friends' houses after school though?

My eldest daughter went to st bedes, and most of her friends lived in villages miles away, but she managed ok. It is difficult living a distance from friends though - when i was at Linton my best friedn lived in a hamlet miles away and it did make things tricky at times!

Oh have name changed btw - was coolma !
