Help me with ideas to fill the Easter hols with 4yo ds1. Slight complication though...

I am kind of filled with dread about the Easter holidays. DS1 is 4.5yo and will be off nursery.

Normally, I love the holidays and find lots of fun things to do, but I am restricted by brand new baby in tow, and awful limp as still recovering from broken ankle.

So far, I have booked one measly hour at the Gracemount leisure centre doing trampolining and bouncy castle. They have stuff on there every day during the week, but he won't swim (which is 2 days of the activity camp), and I know for sure he won't like the other activities.

I almost booked him into the Tennis Camp at Craiglockhart, but then discovered last minute that parents have to participate which obviously isn't possible for me just now.

I am hoping to be driving as of tomorrow, but my limp is bad and I can't walk more than 400 - 500 yards at a time, so I need places where I can park close by and I don't have to be on my feet much to join in.

We have spent so much time apart over the last 12 weeks or so because I haven't been able to look after him when I was on crutches etc, so I want fun stuff we can do together in the holidays hopefully to reverse some of the distress he's suffering any time I have to leave him. Also, I'm not ready to leave DS2 with anybody yet, he's only 3weeks.

Any suggestions? Or am I asking the impossible?

What about the national Museum, all the kid interesting things are one the ground floor plus has disable/baby toilet beside it.

Go to the butterfly world, its fairly small plus if you time it right your DS can watch the small beasts tall and maybe touch/hold beasties. Then go to Dobbies for a nice lunch and look at the fish, rabbits, birds, exotic fish and the duck. The staff in the cafe are always really helpful and are happy to hold trays, find tables and get high chairs.

Meant Talk Not tall. And there is more than one duck.
I think it's time for my bed.

Does he like doing crafty things? This might be fun - ds2 in sling?

Oh, lots of good ideas here ladies. Thank you very much.

I also picked up a couple of mags at nursery and I got some ideas from there too.

I had my first time driving today since I broke my ankle and it went fine. Oh it feels so good to be out and about again.

How about Gorgie Farm? You can park there and it is quite small so not too much walking.

mawbroon · 23/03/2010 15:36

Hi Crackfox - how you doing?

Had thought of gorgie city farm, but am a bit scared of the unevenness of the ground there. Might give it a go if my ankle improves dramatically. Distance wise, I think I would manage.

Good thanks.

Congrats on the baby, I had no idea you had broken your ankle! Sounds a complete nightmare.

Molly's at the Ocean Terminal sometimes have organised events on during the holiday. It might be worth looking into.

mawbroon · 24/03/2010 09:31

Yes, it was a nightmare, but think I am past the worst of it now. I had to have surgery on it when I was 34wks pg and it is all held together with screws and a stonking big metal plate.

And I gave birth wearing nothing but a orthopaedic boot! LOL

Will have a look at Molly's too. thanks

Hi Mawbroon, we are away over Easter weekend or would suggest you come round, Lauriston Castle seem to have some events organised, don't know much about parking but would imagine there isn't much walking involved.

Aliarse · 25/03/2010 22:32

Science festival?

And the Active 5 programme is also on at Ainslie Park leisure centre and Drumbrae...they both have parking and have different activities on through the week

mawbroon · 05/04/2010 22:20

Panic over! I have sussed out what's wrong with my walking and barely limp any more. Hooray!

Over the weekend, I managed a fair bit round the zoo, and about half a mile along the front at Porty.

Oh it feels good to be able to walk again.

I think I saw you today at Gracemount Mawbroon at the trampolining. But I didn't want to seem stalkerish!
Will say hello next time!

mawbroon · 06/04/2010 22:22

Oooooooh, fame at last!!

How did you know it was me?

And which one were you??!

I had a toddler with me while my older one was bouncing. The toddler was running round with a blood stained bib as he bashed himself on the floor in the creche room while we were waiting.

I was sitting in the cafe trying to get the toddler to eat something (failed) and offered you the free chair as you were carrying a little baby. Only afterwards did I remember this thread and wonder if that was Mawbroon!

But was too shy to follow it up...so not like me!

mawbroon · 07/04/2010 08:12

Ah yes, I remember. Thanks for offering me the chair I hope you didn't think I was rude by refusing it! I had wanted to look through into the hall to see ds bouncing.

Do you stay close by I wonder? CAT me if you fancy meeting up.
