Bit early I know! But I'm excited and DS has banned me from telling people in RL until I have my first scan. Is anyone else out there newly preggers??

DS..? That would be odd considering he's not talking yet. I meant DH

I had a baby this December but as you're not allowed to tell any one I just wanted to say congratulations

crumpetsolo · 28/02/2010 19:50

Thanks, and congrats yourself! I accidentally told my Mum today, so feel I can make it to 12 weeks now without letting slip again.

Incidentally, did you go to St Mikes? Is it ok? I was booked in at Southmead last time but never made it that far, so don't know what either is like, but think we are closer to St Mikes..

Not newly pregnant - but just wanted to say I had both of mine at Southmead and it was fine. Congratulations!

MummyElk · 01/03/2010 13:02

am due this month, booked for southmead and last one was delivered happily there too, haven't heard bad things about st michael's though! Congratulations though!! which of the three months you mentioned are you due?! v exciting!!

Due the beginning of November, and think we're going for St Mikes - to be honest I'd rather not have a choice of hospitals! I guess people's experiences depend on the type of labour they have, which probably would have been the same regardless of where they went..?

Yes I had him at St Mike's. I ended up with an emcs but the staff were fantastic. I didn't want any pain relief and my midwife was very supportive. Was offered the pool but due to strepB was not allowed in

Hope all is going well.

I'm due in November - only found out I'm pregnant on Sunday! Been trying for six months, so really excited!

St Michaels was in the Evening Post recently for being one of the safest for birth in the country, so you should be in safe hands...

I live closer to Southmead, but guess I will find out my options when I meet with the midwife - I registered today, but apparently she won't even call me for another seven weeks!

TheChangeSpiral · 19/04/2010 12:04

Hooray - congratulations!

I'm due with my first in mid December and in the process of relocating from London to Bristol. Hoping to move to either Gloucester Road area or St Werburghs.

I'd really like to have a home birth but not sure if it'll be possible as I have a funny shaped womb apparently, so I suppose I ought to find out about hospitals too.

I'm really terrible at keeping secrets and anyway I'd want people to know if anything went wrong so I'm not bothering to try. Mind you I'm not sure how anyone can hide the constant nausea and exhaustion - not to mention the highly out of character non drinking situation!

If you move to the east of Gloucs Road, so St Andrews, Montpelier, St Werbs, you'll probably be registered with Montpelier Health Centre. The MWs there are really pro home birth, and have a really high rate compared to averages. I'm with them, and have had 2 smashing home births. Hoping for a third next month!

Montpelier in general is a good place to live (well, I like it - though we're pretty much in St Pauls). Closer to Gloucs road and bigger houses than St Werbs. Not as expensive (unless you're slap bang in the middle) as St Andrews / Bishopston.

Oh lovely, I'm not the only one! I'd forgotten about this thread. I hope everyone's early appointments/house moves are going well. I'm 14 weeks and significantly more huge than I remember being last time, which is worrying!

I'm 22 weeks, due 1 December and living in the Horfield area. St Mikes is a good hospital - I had a couple of ovarian cyst ops there last year and they were amazing. I have heard though that their CS rate is higher. I'm going to stick with Southmead (the midwife led birthing centre) since slightly nearer, and parking waaaaay better...

crumpetsolo · 11/08/2010 19:11

Yes, parking is a bit of a worry, but I figure it will work itself out, I've heard Southmead can be a bit busy as well parking wise. I think their CS rate might be higher because of their proximity to the children's hospital, and the fact they tend to get referrals for complicated births and babies expected to have health problems? Trying not to worry too much about venue, it's only a day out of my life (hopefully!)
