St Colettes

Have been to have a look at St Colettes today with DS1 (4y) and have decided for a variety of reasons that it is perfect for him, however DH needs a bit more convincing not to send him to the village primary! it would leave us with little disposable income

If anyone has anything to share please do!!!

our dd did their nursery classes .. it was fab. but it is pushy..might not be suitable for everyone

4cookies · 26/02/2010 00:15

We've been considering it too.. Cazzybabs, what do you mean by "pushy"? We haven't been able to visit yet, so would love any extra parent impressions.

cazzybabs · 26/02/2010 22:51

Well they send home reading books three nights a week, plus quite "formal" in a sense of the foundation curriculum - lots of writing, sound work, expectation of sitting on the carpet early on .... but my dd was so ready for it and completely loved it. We will certainly look at it for dd3

cazzybabs · 16/03/2010 20:10

It is closing down at the end of the year due to falling roll...am very sad...we ha decided to send dd3 there but not any more

titanium · 22/03/2010 09:33

Just to say that St. Colette's parents are working out a solution to keep the school open so there is a hope.

Ti.

cazzybabs · 23/03/2010 21:02

Ohhh let me know ... we would love dd3 to have Mrs. Cook

MrsTicklemouseWantsBunnyEars · 25/03/2010 18:22

Oh let me know too, i had a letter yesterday about it

what i don't understand though is that when i tried to register DS2 for nursery he was number 5 on the waiting list so i can't see how how numbers are dwindling if they are oversubscribed for 2011, and i know DS1 had the last place for 2010 transition

Hi

I am a parent with my child attending St Colette's. I cannot praise it enough. He is just 4 years old (last month) and is already reading and writing beautifully. He loves school, and literally would go every day given the choice.

The teachers are wonderful and the level of pastoral care is so high that i feel i am leaving my son with a relative rather than a teacher!

The company that own St Colette's prep school have just announced that it will be closing at the end of this academic year, but a parent body is setting up a "new" school in its place which will be run as a charity and will be opening in september. This we hope will continue to grow into a full prep school (ie to take children through to year 6/ age 11)

If you are interested in more details, please contact me and i will send you all the details.

The fees are set to be one of the lowest in the entire of Cambridge and having two children in state schools and 1 in St Colette's i can honestly say that the value for money is exceptional! I would never now consider the fees to be an issue (we aren't rich but just perhaps have different priorities to other people?)

The classes are so much smaller, the teacher is approachable, he has one on one tuition every day, the lunches are fabulous, the facilities are great.... i could go on and on.

Anyway, please just let me know if you'd like more information about the school. I promise that for once in life the value of theservice you receive will far outweigh the cost!

Very Happy Parent

Hi again

I just wanted to add that we had my son in the village pre school first where he was bullied by two bigger lads, and the response... don't worry they'll be leaving in July (this was march!) and then we took him to a very well known local nursey (SW?) in Westwick, which was huge and scared the crap out him to begin with but even when he settled down, he was bored to tears. I don't feel that the teachers are in the least bit pushy. Mrs Cook, Mrs Daire and the TA in Transition Mr Dixon are three of the best teachers i have ever had the pleasure of dealing with (and i am a teacher)The children are so happy and my son counted the sleeps throughout the Easter Holidays until he went back to school!

FANTASTIC!!!

Anyway, sorry, i'll shut up now. But please contact me if you want more info about the "new" school and i'll gladly get some sent!
bEST WISHES

Pam888 · 22/06/2010 20:44

thanks coolma found it. I believe the new school is called the phoneix school. Its a shame they dont take 2.5 year olds anymore (they take from 3) or i would have certainly considered it. Good luck to them and i will definitely be watching that space
