Hi MNetters

We are about to move to near Queens Park. Want to get DS on a nursery waiting list.

Any views / opinions / recommendations / horror stories on the following:
Tarnerland; Little Oaks; Orchard; Happy Days; The Childrens House.

Thanks!

Hi I have heard good things about tannerland, but I would also suggest you take time to review primary school options as this will possibly be the biggest issue you will have to face, as already for 2011 the city will potentially run out of places on current figures.

Also unlike Secondary schools, distnace is a factor, so with all central schools oversubscribed, make sure you check the distance from your new home to the proposed school, most seem to only manage to accomodate a child within half a mile, but do not rely on this, many parents are desperate and have now decided to rent opposite chosen schools to guarantee a place!

Best of luck and sorry but if we had know this a few years ago, we would have not moved to where we now live!

Have also heard good things about Tarnerland. It has been around quite a while, whereas some of the others you mentioned are slightly newer, which may be why I haven't heard so many things about them.

Can you 'drop in' in to any playgroups in Hanover - that is a good way to get other people's views.

Having a look for yourself is always essential of course

My Daughter went to Tarnerland, & it was lovely, the Meadow is a real bonus, & they make good use of it, staff are lovely, my only complaint was that they didn't inform us parents of out breaks of headlice thread worms etc etc, I had a full on run in with the Head at the time over my asking them to put out a letter as DD had caught thread worms there, took my refusing to pay to finally get her to act, & she was very petty with me ever after....thankfully she has now left, & the other staff there are all really lovely, so apart from the ex head, I really can't fault the place...........

I have heard bad things about Queens park though.....so can't recommend that one as easily

Pixies is nearby, & run by friends of ours, & that is a great little local nursery too, they don't have the out door space the others do, but make good use of local parks & green belt, as well as trips out to the Dyke etc

Tarnerland has had a good reputation for many years (worked there myself when I was at sixth form college twenty something years ago and it was lovely!) Have had quite a few friends RAVE about Happy Days. Don't know anything of the others, but I'm on the other side of the city.

Thanks everyone for your advice.. I had heard good things about Tarnerland too.

Rockinhippy - you say you have heard bad things about Queens Park - what do you mean by that?

tarnerland and happy days both really good. tarnerland more gearing kids up for school, very good teachers there and happy days has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. both worth checking out. found orchard house a bit sprawling and chaotic. hope it helps.
