Where to go for pram repair?? I WILL use this pram again

I have a 7 year old Mutsy Urban Rider, was a present from my parents at the time when DS1 arrived, expensive piece of kit.

DS4 is due in 2 weeks time.

Problem is the handle is loose and the brake does not work.
Nearest Mutsy retailer is somewhere in the Midlands and anyway it was bought outside the UK.

Surely there must be some independent person/man with a welding thingmy who can get a pram fixed? If I pay them? Loadsa money? And be grateful to them?

Glasgow Pram Centre/Mothercare have been no help at all.

Any ideas, oh MNers?
Thanks

Hmm. Maybe at a pinch a good bicycle repair person might have a go?

PacificDogwood · 23/02/2010 22:40

Hm, yes, cycle repair, that might be worth an enquiry, thanks Mimsy.

Bumping this for the night owls - I'll be back in the morning, but off to bed now.

I honestly heard something about a place in North Lan this week that does this -- will check with friend in question and get back to you!

Can't believe you only have 2 weeks to go!! Are the boys excited?

PacificDogwood · 24/02/2010 11:00

Thanks, weegiemum, that sounds promising. It'd be great if you could forward details to me .

Yep, 2 weeks to go (but I am going over because I've too much to do before I can sit all hours that God sent with a little baby-shaped leech attached to me ).

Bumping one last time for the daytime crowd.
Any advice appreciated.

Have you tried bike shop in the village - if they cant help they may be able to recommend someone?

Warning - do not go to trophy/engraving place. Bought very ££££ watch for dp/h for our wedding. Took it there to be engraved, unfortunately they put the wrong date on... they were 10 frikkin years out... Grrr

geordieminx · 24/02/2010 17:22

Also might be worth speaking to Jan Stewarts at EK

Or there is a place in Bathgate but cant for the llife of me remeber the name.

PacificDogwood · 24/02/2010 18:20

Thanks, geordieminx, will definetely try the bike shop - they have been helpful before in bike related 'emergency'.

Trophy place only any good for big boys to waste spend their pocket money on GoGos or WWE wrestling cards .

Bike shop on my list of things to do tomorrow.

Loving the idea of a baby-shaped leech

Seeing friend in question tomorrow, so will get details then for you!

weegiemum · 24/02/2010 18:34

If you get stuck I have a Maclaren lie back from Birth buggy I am looking for a home for, which you could have/borrow until such time as you got your fixed. It could do with a wash but is otherwise fine!

PacificDogwood · 24/02/2010 20:21

Oh, thank you very much, weegiemum, that is so kind !
I am embarrassingly well supplied with prams : still have lie-flat Double Nipper from when DS1 and 2 were tiny, also have McLaren...
The Mutsy is just more substantial and with its carrycot attachment really cosy which is a Good Thing as I am one of the 'leave baby at the bottom of the garden' brigade - not screaming, just asleep, mind you.

PacificDogwood · 01/03/2010 22:10

Yes, we've been - and have joint birthday party organised there on Sunday - 2 days before my due date, yikes!
But that's a good idea to meet one day .
Right, I am off to bed.

i was going to say jan stewarts as well, they definitely repair the buggies they sell so you might be lucky.

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 13:19

Well, bike shop had a look but couldn't help - stupidly complicated pram, gah!

Jan Stewart not interested as not bought from them .

So, I am gathering courage to phone the Pram Centre which I do not particularly like . Wish me luck.

geordieminx · 04/03/2010 14:40

Awh thats rubbish!

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 04/03/2010 21:11

that's a shame, i did think jan stewart's might take that view. it's because they don't price match with the internet but do offer a 'life of first child' repair guarantee, so i suppose that if they repaired for any old tom dick or harry that might undermine the deal.

you can't ask a mechanic to solder it for you?

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 21:27

Well, I was hoping the bike shop guy would be quite creative - he had his dad and some other old boy look at it and I think they were a bit worried they might do more harm than good...

Darn that complicated exotic machine! It will still do v nicely to be standing in the garden, but it is a pain to push around with lose handle and dangerous without a brake...

It was my brother who broke it, grrrrr!

Well, maybe I will have to accept that this pram will only have served 4 DCs - which is not bad going, I suppose.

Anyway, Pram Centre to be phoned tomorrow.

have you checked your insurance btw? dd2 broke our buggy and i got the WHOLE thing replaced, even the car seat etc becuase it didn;t fit the new model. (actually i pocketed the money and bought a bee, because we didn't need all that stuff).
check your policy for accidental damage cover.

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 21:41

Ooooh, v v good idea, Aitch, thanks for that. Insurance had not occured to me....
