Moving from Plymouth - with 2 year old, HELP!

Hello!!
Need as much help / advice as possible please!! My husband and I are going to be moving to Newcastle in a few months for his work, and I've NEVER been to this area before, so have no idea what to expect!!! He works in Blyth, so we'd be buying somewhere within a commutable distance (ideally up to approx 20 miles radius)

I have no idea what are good / bad areas!! We have a 2 yr old daughter, so we'd like to move to a nice area with good children's centres / nursery's / schools. No where rough / scary / students etc. I'm hoping to have more horses one day , so possibly not too close to city centre.

I'd REALLY appreciate your help & advice on where to go & where to avoid!!!

Thanks,

Claire x x x

Hi, whats your budget ?

The north east has a massive price differential. Houses in Ponteland sell for upwards of £1 million, yet there are other areas that a very very low.

Claireycsi · 11/02/2010 11:37

Lol, in the region of, or up to £250,000 - thanks

Morpeth is a lovely market town, with nice shops and a lovely park, and I guess if you are into horses lots of countryside around.

Beach riding up near Holy Island is an absolutely amazing experience, I'll come with you if you want to go

Whitley bay is quite popular with families, I think the sea front is a bit tired but I think there was some money planned to redevelop it. Tynemouth is a nice spot too.

The student areas are much closer to the city, Jesmond and Gosforth and I guess the rougher parts of town are there too.

Newcastle is a lovely city, not too big but has lots, try the google street map for yourself, although I think it doesnt cover Blyth at the moment.

Northumberland is a lovely county, good luck with your move.

Wow thanks 'Carrotfly', that's given me something to think about - I've been looking at properties for sale online & the areas mean nothing to me (Stanley, South Broomhill etc), I'm feeling much more positive about moving up there now!!!
And yes, I'll be up for a ride

Hi, I second the vote for whitley bay/tynemouth area. The schools are great, it'd be an easy commute to Blyth and the coast is truely beautiful. Gosforth is another good area (not the Fawdon end) if you find a few places you like the look of you could post the names of the areas or links to the details (snooping emoticon ) and we can give you an honest opinion! Good luck xxx

hi what a stressfull time this must be for you!
tynemouth & north shields have some very nice areas but like anywhere they have bad ones too. most of the area is built up so if you did get horses you may find you have to travel to a good place to keep them. Cramlington is a lovely area probably the closest place i would recommend.
earlier you mentioned Stanley, this would be quiet a commute for blyth as it is on the south side of the tyne so would mean tackling the "tyne tunnel" although they are building another one take it from someone who spends ALOT of time sitting in traffic there. or if hubby doesnt mind sitting in traffic or wouldnt be working standard 9-5 shifts, you do get alot more for your money on the south side of river!! nice places are south shields (which is where i live) on the coast & plenty of great places to keep horses! whitburn, chester le street.
most of the local estate agents give details of areas, schools, amenities.
if you would like any more info, or if you find a area & would like a honest opinion just ask me
hope you get sorted soon & like the north east :.)
