Hello! Have just moved to the city 2 weeks ago and need to find some activities for my 15 month old - for both our sanity!
Can anyone recommend any toddler groups etc... in and around the city? We live in NR4. Thanks! x

Hi,
NR4 covers quite a large area. Can you be a bit more specific- lol!

I am in Hethersett, which is quite close to Thickthorn Service Station. My dc are 6 and 11.

Hethersett has a toddler group, it used to be on a Tuesday and Friday 10-11.30am in the main village hall on Churchfields.

Eaton has a couple of groups.

Will try to find some links for you.

FimBOW · 08/02/2010 15:43

Although this is mainly about schools there are some Toddler Groups on it.

FimBOW · 08/02/2010 15:47

Hethersett Village Hall, the mother and toddler group times are there if you scroll down also Jo-Jingle on a Thursday.

Hi,
Thanks for all the advice - great effort!
Renting for now near Eaton Park, but have car so can defo do Hethersett.
If feeling brave will attempt the library, but little one has a bit of a page-tearing habit!!

Hi Mocam, I used to go to a great mother and baby group just up the road from you. On Colman Road near the library.

I used to rent on Eaton Road myself and we would walk up or drive if we were feeling lazy.

LadyGaggia · 08/02/2010 20:54

Waves at Fimbow (this is Spagblog)

FimBOW · 08/02/2010 20:58

I wouldn't worry about the library - they are used to that sort of thing. In fact the library in Hethersett used to have signs up saying not to worry if babies chewed books etc.

Eaton Park is fab in the summer time. From about March/Easter they have a little steam train on a Sunday that has two tracks, they run on alternate weeks, either just round in a loop or further out into the park. My ds loves it.

If I think of anything else I will post it here.

FimBOW · 08/02/2010 21:00

Waves back @ LadyGaggia - lol, I was wondering where you had gone! Are you still in Norwich?

mocam · 08/02/2010 21:00

Great. Another top tip - think i might have kerb crawled that one already funnily enough so will give it a bash! Presume they will be closed next week for half term? x

From where you are there are several good playgroups/preschools - Jessop Road is good, Trinity Street comes highly recommended and there's St Peter's on Park Lane.

A good toddler group is St Thomas's on Earlham Road - near the Mitre Pub. Wednesday mornings from 9.30, I think.

Fimbo's right re Eaton Park - it is great. Loads going on in the summer. Heigham Park's a bit more of a walk and much smaller, but lovely.

The library on Colman Road (up near the Barclays) is small but good - nice staff, very tolerant of toddlers etc.

It's a nice area - hope you settle in quickly .

LadyGaggia · 10/02/2010 16:04

Hi FimBow, In Swardeston now. Kids at Mulbarton so will end up at Hethersett High eventually!

Sorry mocam for thread hijack

mocam · 10/02/2010 21:23

Thanks all for the top tips!
Have been to a couple of things and so far so good. Will look into some others for after half term too. Park is smashing, but looking forward to the slide less the snow and ice! x

I can definitely vouch for the Forum toddler bounce an rhyme time on Wednesday afternoons/Thursday mornings, they are very busy, boisterous and fun. You can also sneak in a good cup of coffee at the cafe too afterwards.

Just a quick wave to you mums south of the city, we moved to Wymondham recently which has nothing decent going on, we tend to travel to groups in nearby villages or Norwich. Will probably be going back to our home village of Mulbarton when we can afford the moving fees all over again....

jessikart · 02/03/2010 21:57

Thank you for the tips peeps - I've just moved back to Norwich after 12 years away, and I'm frantic to find some local toddler stuff to take DD to whilst DS is at Colman (we're in NR2).

Maybe see you there

MountainLassie · 13/03/2010 19:09

Sorry to hi-jack the conversation but I'm moving to Norwich in May with my 5 month old. Not too familiar with the area but had been looking a Wymondham - but maybe I should reconside. Norfolkbumpkin do you think it has little for babies? Anyone got any suggestions on where we should look to rent?

MountainLassie · 15/03/2010 08:31

?

Norfolkbumpkin · 10/04/2010 17:52

Sorry Lassie, only just saw your message . Location-wise Wymondham is an o.k. place to live as it is right on the edge of the main route into Norwich, and a 5 minute drive from the A47, which goes to the coast. From a mixing with other mums point of view, I have found it very hard to make friends here with mums who have already got a circle of chums formed from pre/post natal groups, but I think this situation is fairly common in a lot of places.

MountainLassie · 14/04/2010 18:58

That's what I thought! I'm moving back from France and it was tough to make friends out here too - at least back home I have the advantage of being able to speak English which should make it easier! Thanks for the info.
