Hi there.

A complete newbie here. I live in Derby but we are thinking of moving to Belper for better schools/nicer area etc. My son in in Yr 2 and my daughter in Reception.

I have read up on Long Row Primary and really like it. Any chance your children go there or you know someone who sends their children there?

Also what is it really like to live in Belper - what is there for my children to do?

I'd really appreciate ANY information whatsoever as this is a big change and i need to be informed before we do anything.

Thank you.

I don't live in Belper, I had a friend that lives there, it's a lovely area but she hated the school so much that she and her husband sent their 2 to a private school in Derby, behaviour/bullying/lack of learning. I can't remember which primary they were from though but I don't think there's many in Belper. It's a nice place though, there's a soft play centre but her 2 used to come into Derby for the music club as there isn't one in Belper. Where abouts in Derby are you currently?

Ah, that was the school, Ambergate. This mum's the most laid back person ever so it must have taken alot for her to pull her children out, swallow their principles and go private.

Duffield's nice, Ecclesbourne catchment, the junior school is also said to be nice.

I live just outside Belper. Long Row though a Victorian looking school is well run - no bullying that I know of. Daughter is thriving there. Teaching is good.

Not much in the way of after school clubs.

There are atleast two dance schools in the area. Another old school has various clubs going on like tai kwando. There's a leisure centre including swim pool at the Belper school.

There's a Drop Inn youth centre in Derwent Street. Crime is pretty low.

Buses can take you to Derby every 1/4 hour, Ripley, Heanor and there's the trans peak from Nottingham to Manchester. Can also get to Bakewell and Buxton.

There's also a train service from Belper to Nottingham, Derby and Matlock.

The people are very friendly. The scenery just outside Belper is beautiful - I love it

There is the Chuckle Butties soft play area at the old mill. There are the river gardens and another play area off Mill Street.

The place is well served by super markets with a Morrisons, Co-op, Haldanes replacing Somerfield and usual green grocers, butchers, unusual bead shop, old fashioned sweet shop, a number of charity shops.

There's a newly refurbished cinema with plenty for all the family. There are a number of family friendly cafes and a deli.

Have I sold it to you yet?

Hi

How did you get on with your move and the schools? We are looking to move to Belper with our two sons who are age 1 and 4
