Any suggestions ladies?

Pre DD1 we used to swim/hillwalk/cycle. She' s only 5.5mo so just feels like we are stuck for things to do 'together'.

Swimming- yup;short walks round parks ets-yup.

Anything else??

Maybe not warm enough yet but we started dd on the back of my bike when she was about 5 months. I got a co pilot as this one reclines which I found better when she was wee.Cant remember what else we done apart from swimming, sorry.

do you drive?

go visit all the sea fronts and walk the promenades...

a day in millport is a great laugh as well- very flat so ideal for wee toddlers or prams.

trixymalixy · 28/01/2010 23:45

You could hillwalk using one of those baby carriers.

shonaspurtle · 28/01/2010 23:47

Do you have a proper back carrier? Ds has been all over in ours, and a friend went skiing with his one year old in theirs (which I personally think was madness, but there you go).

They're great for walking and gets rid of having to worry about where the buggy can go.

shonaspurtle · 28/01/2010 23:47

lol great minds trixy

As it gets into the spring it's worth really checking out Glasgow parks. Ds & I have done this every summer since I was on mat leave and I've found some great places.

So, not just your nearest park get reacquainted with Victoria Park (Fossil Grove), Tollcross Park (nice play area, children's farm, sports centre with pool right beside and lots of walks), Kelvingrove (An Clachan cafe right beside the play area), Queens Park (little soft play, reptile house, cafe), Botanics (Kibble Palace, lovely walks - do the Kelvin Walkway and get Kelvingrove & Botanics in one), Pollok Park (Gardens round Pollok house are lovely, cafe at the Burrell, nature walks, Highland cows), etc, etc, etc

You may know all of this, but I really didn't get how well off we are for parks and how different they all are until I had ds.

Also, at that age I think they just enjoy being with you and watching you do things so do what you and dh enjoy and don't worry especially about "child friendly" as such.

trixymalixy · 29/01/2010 00:06

Totally agree with Shona

I wouldn't worry about entertaining a baby at that age, they are pretty portable, so just keep doing the things you did before.

HerMomminess · 29/01/2010 10:35

Hi ladies,

Thank you so much for the tips. Coincidentally got 'given ' a lovely Vaude baby carrier-secondhand good as new! Just lovely and waiting for the raincover etc.

From what age would you put them in it? She is just about 6mo but not quite sitting unaided. Fine in Bumbo etc for BLW. Should that be ok?

Good idea to explore parks! Especially with cafes.

Going to Crieff next week as a family trip before my return to work.

Soft play? The wee one in Queen's Park glasshouse is good for teenies, because there's not actually that much stuff in it. In fact, I think there are bf groups that meet there. There are always loads of babies rolling around in it. And it's FREE!

bethjeff · 04/02/2010 05:19

Calderglen is lovely but not for anyone with a pram!!
If there's any mariners or you like walking Portvadie marina is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are very child friendly as well. Perfect for a weekend in the great outdoors!

NumptyMum · 04/02/2010 15:14

In bad weather, museums are good, esp once your little one is mobile - though then you have the problem of keeping up with them! DS (now 2.5yrs) loves the transport museum, kelvingrove and in town the GOMA museum and library. In the southside the Tramway is good, esp in summer when you can use the hidden gardens. Libraries are also good, some have bits of play equipment (the one at Partick has a bead thing that keeps DS quiet for ages...).

NumptyMum · 04/02/2010 15:15

Actually, DS also loves Ikea ...

geordieminx · 04/02/2010 20:37

We are usually found in Ikea one a month too as ds loves it - although word of warning - we were in there last week and they have changed it round - not for the better.

The play area & tv upstairs in the cafe has gone, and they have moved all of the kids stuff downstairs to the "marketplace" just before the tills - not nice at all. All of the wee play things - see saw/tents/kitchens have gone.

Am hoping that its just a temporary change...

NumptyMum · 04/02/2010 21:33

Hi Geordieminx - the store change is only while they're doing the kitchen bit, I think - I was there on Weds and notice said until 8 Feb, I think. But I'm not sure the cafe will get the kids play area back; there seemed to be a small area in the corner near baby feeding area, and that's it now...

HerMomminess · 05/02/2010 22:34

Cheers ladies...keep 'em coming! Just tried out our baby carrier today (Back carrier) and will mean more places to explore.

Pity bout Ikea though!
