Advice Needed, New to Cambridge

Evening Lovelies,

We're moving to Cambridge from London next week with our two little ones, DD1 is 21 months and DD2 is 8 months old.

Can anyone suggest fun classes that we can go to? We love music, dancing, swimming, art and lots of other stuff too!

Also, are there any groups or clubs that I might find to make new friends? I'm thinking of joining the local NCT but am worried that most new joiners are expecting brand new babies.

Any help and advice would be really very appreciated. I won't know a single person when I arrive and it's really terrifying!

J x

Whereabouts are you moving to - there are various groups at Romsey Mill on the south side of the city and at Homerton childrens centre. Not very up on it all nowadays as mine are school age1 The library would probably be more help!!

There are some nice babyswimming classes in Chesterton Community College which could be worth investigating if you're that way inclined, or Sunny Steps dance and movement might suit your DD. As Coolma says Romsey Mill/Homerton Centre. Also loads of playgroups: there's a huge list here which seems fairly up to date.

I think you could be pretty busy . It might also be worth joining the NCT, although I'm not a member I know plenty of people who are and they always seem to have plenty to do that's accessible for those who have moved beyond the newborn stage.

Hi, I'm an NCT member in Cambridge who has moved in November (from Rugby but lived in London for 13 years).

I have joined NCT coffee mornings for my area and I'm meeting mums, plus I'm doing some volunteering (I used to in London and Rugby and it's great for us as we moved twice already and lost friends).

My daugher is 3 in April so although mums have babies, some have toddlers too as the baby is their second child. I haven't felt left out, my toddler plays with other toddlers or the toys there and I chat with the mums. I love holding babies if mums want a breather.

I have volunteered my lounge for the coffee mornings once and doing it again next month. You don't have to be a member to come to coffee mornings but it's good to join for support of the charity, the committee people I have met so far are really nice and friendly.

The new library is great for kids, story time and nursery rhymes are twice a week.

There are some SureStart centres in some areas and churches with toddlers group.

The NCT little voice is a mine of info for classes (£4 from NCT) and also the Family Grapevine, which is free. I got both as I wanted to know about actitivies.

If you want to link up, you can cat me or I can post my email.
