family meal in glasgow city centre

SantaSho · 27/12/2009 22:59

Due to transport issues my family are forced to have our post christmas get together in the city center this year.
Problem is Iv been left to organise it and I dont go to Glasgow very often anymore.

So I am looking for suggestions for any restaraunt type place that isnt too hard on the purse but is very child friendly. We normally go to somewhere like Frankie&Bennys. There will be 5 kids ranging in age from 1 to 6yrs and 4 adults.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

TGI Fridays?

bethjeff · 28/12/2009 03:19

TGI's is extortionate.

I'd recommend La Vita (italian american fare- just a wee bit nicer than f&b's) - just off george sq.

Or Di Maggios, there's one up next to the Theatre Royal and another on Royal Exchange Sq- its another italian/american chain. It's easier on the wallet and child friendly.

If you're into vegan fare- Stereo is very good also.

RipMacWinkle · 28/12/2009 08:19

I second the vote for DiMaggios

Menu

or Viva, on Bothwell Street

Viva menu

These are both a step up from F&B (IMHO) but have been into both with children with no bother.

I've attached the menu links so you can see if these would be in your price range.

Have a lovely time wherever you end up

la vita is great but I think its too small for younger kids

TGI's have a kids menu and balloons and colouring in to keep little ones happy

I'd go there

i'd say paperinos on sauchiehall st. haven't been to the di maggios in town but the one off byres road is incredibly bad. or what about good old pizza express on queen st?

SantaSho · 29/12/2009 18:03

thank you ladies. il have a look at these and speak to the family.
I like the idea of tgi's giving colouring in stuff for the kids

pizza express gives colouring stuff for kids. it's just some pencils and a piece of paper, cheaper to buy it yourself than get ripped off at tgis tbh.

I know its a bit random, and maybe not as "posh" as you want but when we have ds with us, we usually go to china buffet king on Mitchell street - they have a really good selection of stuff, chinese and english stuff that toddler will eat - pizza, meatballs, sausage rolls jelly etc. Its great as you can eat straight away so no bored kids.

We had a lovely meal in Darcy's in Princess Square today, but it isnt cheap - 2 courses for the 3 of us £40

shonnomanom · 29/12/2009 22:43

the only thing against the likes of china buffet king is that your limited to how long you can sit. we dont get to meet up very often so are really looking for somewhere where we can relax and not have the waiters hoovering round us waiting on our plates. iv experienced that 1st hand there.

i think we'l either go tgi or somewhere pizza-ish. its a group decision.
thank you all very much for your feed back

Topolinos in Sauchiehall Street is great (next to Paperinos but downstairs). Lovely food and very much a family Italian - the old fella sings O Solo Mia to the diners every day - fab!
I would avoid TGIs - the food is yuck and it's not good value for money. Bring your own colouring and crayons and go to Topolinos!

mariedj · 31/12/2009 00:51

La Tasca. They are v child friendly.

sweetkitty · 31/12/2009 06:28

Agree avoid TGI's, overpriced and the burgers are probably better at McDs

We usually go to Pizza Express off George Square or one of the ones in the beasement of Princes Square, Darcys or the one whose name I can't remember at the back.

geordieminx · 31/12/2009 09:23

SK - Buzzy Wares?

sweetkitty · 31/12/2009 16:17

That's the one thanks

ElizabethWakefield · 31/12/2009 16:37

Not quite the city centre (ok not at all the city centre, but not too far) Tony Macaroni's at the bottom of Byres Rd is really nice and good for kids. Know from experince that they will let you sit on for a good while etc.

shonnomanom · 04/01/2010 11:49

thanks everybody
tgi is getting very mixed reviews all over

badabing how accessable is topolinos for prams? we will have 2 on the day.

sk what are the prices like at Buzzy Wares? They dont have a website
