Hi everyone, I'm new to Mumsnet and am hoping for some advice/guidance from you!

I am expecting my first baby (a girl) in March and have lived in Bounds Green for about 18 months. I moved to London over 10 years ago but many of my fiends have moved away now and my closest friends and family have remained in the Midlands. As such I don't have much of a support network...

I am really excited about becoming a Mum but do have pangs of anxiety that me and my babe are going to be a bit isolated! I have just passed my driving test so we are at least mobile and I'd love to meet some Mums and babies for us to become friends with.

I am starting maternity leave on February 18th (edd March 18th) and would like to join some groups before and after the baby comes.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Sorry for the long post, J x

..have you considered joining your local NCT group? I know a few mums who did (through antenatal classes) and made long-term friends with other mums that way. I didn't and regretted it!

Hi
I'm expecting a baby girl too - in February and live in Stoke Newington which isn't too far from Bounds Green. I feel anxious about the support network thing too as I'm from the north originally and my family are up there.
Have you tried Jessica James she's ex NCT and does pregnancy yoga and antenatal classes - she's very good. I'm also going to start pregnancy yoga classes at Clissold Leisure Centre in Stoke Newington soon does your local health centre have them? Could be a good way to meet people...

A x

When baby is born, ask your health visitor for info. (you'll get to meet them not only after the birth, but also for weight check ups).

I bet she can shower you with info about local Children's centres. They offer stay&play sessions, where you basically sit around and chat to other mums while baby amuses himself with the toys provided. You could already check out the council's web site for more info.

I also bet there'll be breastfeeding support groups you can go to. Even if you find estabishing breastfeeding a doddle, it's a nice place to meet fellow mums.
