I'm looking for recommendations for a dentist in the CB4 area or CB1. Will consider private if not too expensive. Thanks

OK, I can thoroughly recommend New Square dental practice as I've been there for a while now and been very happy with the treatment I've had - but they are private, but not massively expensive.

I've also had experience at Chesterton Dental Practice, who do NHS, one of the dentists I rate he is good and a nice gentle bloke and the other one is fine but I wouldn't actively recommend him (he is not as gentle as the other guy and I'm a wimp!).

The one at the top of Mill Road (Antwerp House Dental Practice) I would avoid - they seem to have a quick turn over of young dentists and I had an awful experience there where a dentist gave me a temporary but nonetheless alarming facial palsy by injecting the anaesthetic in the wrong place

Chesterton Road - Cambridge dental centre. I was a complete coward and went there on a colleagues advice. Had a tooth out and a filling and am so proud of muself. The one I see is Richard Parry. Absolute diamond geezer! My husband and children all go to Antwerp House and I did for a bit, but I would agree - too many dentists and the one I had was really nasty to me when I got upset. Horrid man

I use the one on cherry hinton road, by the ring road. I am an NHS patient there, and I think they are good, but have not had a lot of work done on my teeth just checkups and a cap on one tooth when I got knocked off my bike. I don't know if they still take NHS patients though.
I live right near Antwerp House and I heard to avoid it too.

Thanks for suggestions, I will check them out. I am a bit wimpy, so have to make sure....

Absolutely agree - he is a lovely man (saw him Wednesday to refill a filling) who does an excellent job. DH and I are dreading the day he retires. The surgery is by no means plush - but it is largely NHS.

His name (I think) is Richard Perry not Parry

coolma · 27/11/2009 17:34

It is Perry, you're right. Isn't he fab? So gentle and he remembered me talking about dd's and her ear problems the second time I saw him, by which I ws very impressed - he simply can't retire! The only problem I had was walking past the other dentists to his surgery Bit scary..

I go to the Antwerp Dental surgery at Sainsbury's end of Mill Road and see Raj. He is fab. I am terrible at going to the dentist and at 34 he is only my 3rd dentist. The first (my Mum's old dentist from when she was a kid) retired, then my previous dentist from aged 7-31 finally became too much of a commute [Cambridge back up to Stoke!].

My DH went to Raj for a check up and convinced me he was good. I had no option when on honeymoon as my tooth played up and I needed an appointment ASAP when we got home. He was great. I'm known for fainting at the slightest trip to the dentist so he made the room really cold, gave me a lucozade tablet to boost my sugar levels then got started. I can't say it was a pleasant experience having a root canal filling but he made it as good as he could. The main downside is he is really expensive and does no NHS. Some things are just worth breaking out the credit card!

goldenpeach · 11/12/2009 20:36

thanks for suggestions. Perry doesn't take new patients but we are registering with the practice anyway, fingers crossed..

I'd agree raj os the best one there. It's a real shame he doesn't do nhs as I may have stayed with them. The rest are just horrid (I think!)

neolara · 17/12/2009 12:46

Ooh, I see Mr Perry too. First time I went he was wearing an Hawaiian shirt, which kind of freaked me out. I like anyone fiddling with my bits in a uniform, preferably white and starched.

BoffinMum · 05/03/2010 21:51

I went to someone at Antwerp House and she made a right mess of some dental work, and charged me £200 for the privilege. She also lied outright and told me that if I visited another dentist whilst registered with her, I would be struck off the NHS dental register and would not be able to get NHS dental treatment in this country as a consequence (what utter rubbish). I complained formally to the local PCT about this and also tried to get a refund for the failed treatment (which had to be redone by another dentist at my expense) and she said she would only do this if the other dentist wrote her a letter, which he would have charged me to do, so I effectively ended up paying for the same work twice. I am still cross about it.

coolma · 07/03/2010 17:27

My DH has just had a letter from his dentist at Antwerp telling him he's now going 'inpendant', but will still see the children. Bit of a pain for him. Don't know about the others who are there now - they change so frequently..

goldenpeach · 15/03/2010 17:45

Chesterton Road Practice is good. We had our appointment. Perry doesn't take people but the other dentists are OK. Ours was a woman with an eastern european surname.
