Just wondering if anyone went, as by the time I had found a parking space, waded through the rain and then saw the length of the queue,I had lost the will to live. I decided that I did'nt need anything that badly. But of course now I am regretting missing out on some bargains.

There appeared to be hudreds of people waiting. What did I miss?

i went to the last one, i was early and there was still a mahoosive queue. there was nothing to be had, the helpers had bagged the lot. (which i have no particular objection to, tbh, so long as i can be arsed volunteering).

I went! I queued for half an hour. I watched the volunteers carrying off their booty (past the long, envious queue). I tried not to mind as I had been a volunteer the year before and had had the same privilege. But still DID mind rather unreasonably

It was absolutely rammed and boiling hot. From the amount of full-to-bursting IKEA bags, there were many bargains to be had. I myself was looking for a cheap Maclaren to replace my own 5 year-old one that is on its last legs but to no avail. Instead I came away with books, small toys and a pair of roller skates for my 5 year old.

Clothing-wise I was diappointed but then I think the focus is on baby clothes up to 2yrs and both my children are beyond this age.

Twas amusing to see so many sad-looking Bumbos cast aside and it also made me realise that no-one need ever buy anything plastic and brand-new for a child under 1 from anywhere else. It was absolutely awash with such toys. I was also relieved to be free of shortlived paraphernalia such as baby nests, walkers, activity centres, mats etc.

Can think of better ways to have spent nearly 2 hours of my Saturday but my son is very glad that I went

thanks glasjam I feel better now,as no doubt would have bought lots of stuff that I dont really need for 6 week dd. I went to Boots and M&S instead and spent an hour pottering about child free testing lipsticks etc without pesky 4 year old demanding her shade.

Yes giggly, that sounds a much more preferable use of your free time on a Saturday! Does your 4 year old really demand her "shade" though? What in, lipstick? That's really rather sophisticated for a 4 year old isn't it ?

littlelozz · 24/11/2009 23:32

I went and got some great bargains - although it was so hot that I almost had to give up and leave. I was selling things for the first time and it was nice to see most of the big things were gone (and the volunteers left with them before the sale!)

Not a lot of 2 year plus clothes but I got two party dresses and a red footmuff which is exactly what I went for.

Trying to talk myself out of volunterring next time as no doubt I will end up with too much I dont need!

glasjam · 25/11/2009 00:08

Well done getting what you went for - always a result! All I wanted was either a cheap Maclaren or equivalent or at least a rain cover for a Maclaren - unfortunately I got neither. Went to Mothercare this week and they wanted £30 for a raincover!!! That's a third of the price of my pushchair. Have been rooting round ebay but raincovers are like gold dust (unless you want one of those that you have to weave into the frame of the pushchair everytime rain threatens and then unweave again)

she only knows about lipstick shades as I have to tell her when she sees me putting it on that they are not her shades. That way I get to keep my n ice ones and she plays happily with the freebies, or mistakes.
Either that or she has been watching to much mummy telly.
