Hi,
I'm a first timer- due in Feb.- and looking for a good antenatal class in Nottingham. Did anyone attend the nct ones in the local area? Or perhaps a class run by Instructions Not Included? Any advice for what to sign up for much appreciated!

Hi,I think if you manage to get on a nct class that is local to you then it's informative and helps you have a ready made group of friends who are also at home with babies at the same time as you. Mine wasn't local and people didn't keep in touch much. It was worth it as I didn't know much about birth, but then the mumsnet pregnancy guide does tell you enough too!
My midwife was running free antenatal classes at my local health centre (west bridgford by the way) -we all continued to meet up with babies and 7 yrs later I still have 3 firm friends from that group.
I also went to the hospital (QMC in my case) one that was for a couple of hours because I wanted to see where I would give birth.Don't think anyone stayed in touch from that though.
Not heard of the other one.

Stating my interest as a student NCT teacher in Nottingham. We have a range of courses and an excellent group of teachers. To get an idea of the types of classes available, check on the NCT website

Thanks for your advice, clemette and defineme. I've managed to get onto a class in Long Eaton, so not too far from me, as I'm in Beeston. I think that all the free classes are currently on hiatus due to Swine flu- midwives are worried they will be overstretched.

Hi, I'm Jules and am one of the midwives who run Instructions not Included. All the people involved in our workshops also work on the labour ward by day (or night if on a night shift!)and so are extremely up to date with current practice. Check out our independent reviews by clicking the link on our website or following us on facebook.
Anyway, more to the point, and more importantly one of the best kept secrets around in Nottingham are active birth workshops, a 2 hour workshop run on the labour ward at each hospital talking about signs of labour and coping mechanisms, and its FREE! :o Its only a taster but well worth attending. Bookings are made via the triage department in each hospital and places are limited so book early, hope this helps and good luck
