Good Primary Schools in Oxford

Hi
I'm pregnant with our first and we're wanting to move to a bigger place, preferably staying quite close to the centre of Oxford. Currently we're in Temple Cowley. Would like to move to an area with a good primary school. Can anyone reccomend anywhere? I think Martson Rd is supposed to me good.
Many thanks.

I went round some of the primary schools in Marston and was impressed. but we didn't get in to any as we were a late application so DD was offered a place in Botley !! FFS - how could I get there with Ox traffic and get to work - so had to go private.

Of the two schools I visited:
St Michaels' - nice but rather cramped but think they're building now.
St Nicholas - great - lots of space- seemed like a terrific head.
St Christophers - have heard good reports from friends...but you have to be Catholic

That's the sum total of my knowledge!!

Any thoughts on New Marston Primary?
We're due to go back to Oxford next year, and apparently it's the only school that can offer places at the moment...

Wolvercote is a lovely village and has a primary school that is well thought of and has a good Ofsted report.

old post - just just in case you are still looking.... IMO there are a number of really great primary schools in the area.

Phil & Jims (St Philip & St James) has a great reputation - but as a result hard to get into and also a reputation for pushy parents (apologies to any Phil&Jim parents reading, I merely report what I hear, I'm happy to be contradicted!)

However, many others within the city get good reviews too - St Barnabas, West Oxford, North Hinksey, St Ebbes and further afield Cumnor, and Coombe to name a few. Most schools in the city suffering from applications outstripping availability... what did they put in the water 6 years ago??? This list is by no means exclusive - just the first that come to mind.

Worth considering secondary schools too - Cherwell always extremely popular and Matthew Arnold getting decent results too.

Afraid I know less about the East Oxford/Headington schools.

We are in Headington; I put 2 Marston schools as 2nd choices: St Nicholas seemed like the best, followed by St Michael's. NewMarston less good, less good Ofsted.
Fortunately, we got our 1st choice in Headington (Windmill); St Andrews in Headington has very good reputation. St joseph's, the catholic primary in Marston is so ridiculously over-subscribed that they can't even take all catholics in catchment.

Hi, we're looking to move to Oxford as my husband's job is in headington now and he's hating the commute. a lot of the schools seem to be Church based--do they all require actual church going or are some of them church in name but not in admissions policy?

St Joseph's requires definite catholic baptism/ church attendance and is way over-subscribed even so due to high proportion catholics in local area
St Andrews, altho' nominally C of E, has no entry requirement as such, but no space for children from out of catchment either. St Francis Hollow Way is C of E but again no church requirement. Windmill non-denominational. None of the other Marston schools has church-related admission policy.
