What's it really like being a SAHM in Sevenoaks?

Hi there!
Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place...?
We are considering a move to Sevenoaks from London - great commute, good schools etc but I'm slightly worried about life as a SAHM mum there.
Currently live in v child-friendly part of N. London with endless groups/ mums coffee meet ups etc. It's also pretty diverse.
Can anyone give me a flavour of Sevenoaks?
Much appreciated,

Hello againagain,

Sorry not adding to help - but am in same situation! We're moving from SE London to Sevenoaks and DC1 is due start of Jan so I'll be at home for a year (or more if it suits ) and could do with some tips from the local ladies!

Thanks also!

Hi there,
We moved last November from North London to Sevenoaks and although it did take a bit of getting used to at first (so quiet compared to London) I have found that the benefits far outweigh the negatives - it was 9 months before I got my first parking ticket!! Yes it's very suburban, which frankly we found terrifying at first having lived in Islington for 10 years, but life is SO much easier with kids - lots to do, parks, loads of clubs of every sort, people are really nice and friendly, great schools (although bear in mind that the same catchment area rules apply and the faith schools are like everywhere else particularly difficult to get into) Would recommend renting first to get a feel for the area, that's what we did and we haven't looked back. With No 2 on the way, I could never consider moving back to London now. It's only 25 mins direct into Charing Cross so London is never far away anyway to see old friends.
Hope that helps, good luck!!

I moved to Sevenoaks April last year from South London, i was 5 months pregnant with my first, and i love it here! I'll be honest and say that i don't know many people but i take my 6 month old boy to a very large playgroup on tuesdays, Musical Bumps on Wednesdays and we are just about to start Baby signing on Fridays.

There is a hell of a lot to do, group wise and places to walk etc. Some very child friendly pubs, one in particular the Bullfinch in Riverhead.

If you move here and would like to meet let me know! I've recently posted on netmums 'meet a mum' as i would like to make some friends in the area xx

Hi ladies,

Sorry I know this thread was ages ago but I googled sevenoaks and this came up. We are considering moving to Sevenoaks from SW London and I too am terrified of going stir crazy in the house all the time and feeling isolated.

Have always lived in a town so a bit scary... but it is def time to move from the big smoke. So how are you finding it? I have a great bunch of mums I meet up with here and they keep me sane! do you think its easyish to meet other mums for playdates coffees etc.? My daughter is 2 and a half and we are thinking of having another one at some point in the near future although I can't say I have fully recovered from having one yet! ;-)

Anyway any reassurance or advice you can give would be v much appreciated.

Alycat1, I'm also in your boat at the moment though children a little older. Am thinking that it is the right thing to do but not sure about being so far out. We are currently in central london v close to all the action.

I'd love to hear from local mums about how their days are and how 'social' the mums are.

Welcome to my town, ladies! I came here by way of NY and London, so it wasn't an obvious destination, but I've loved my SAHM interludes here (now back at work, but would go back to SAHM-dom in Sevenoaks in a heartbeat if family budget allowed) - Endless numbers of mum's groups, classes, school groups, etc, and wonderful parks, nature walks, blackberry picking, etc. When kids are in school, my friends swear by www.sevenoaksladiesjoggers.co.uk/ jo.
