Learning to read in welsh-medium school?

Hi, is there anyone here whose children go to welsh-medium school? I was wondering what happens when they start learning to read, do they only learn in Welsh, or both Welsh and English?

Reason I ask is that my son has been given a place in Ysgol Melin Gruffydd nursery, and I wondered how, as a non-welsh speaker, I would be able to help with his reading if he stays in welsh-medium education.

I assume the children bring books home & parents are expected to practice with them...how do non-welsh speaking parents manage?

Hi
My ds goes to a welsh school (and I was educated in welsh schools too). Yes, they will learn the welsh alphabet first (which is phonetic and therefore easier imo) and english a little later on. Maybe it'd be worth talking with the school for more advice on this to put your mind at ease? I'm sure they've ben asked a million times before, don't worry!
