where to breastfeed in cardiff town centre?

Now that mothercare is gone I don't know where to go to just sit quietly and in a nice environment to BF. That baby changing cubicle in the Capitol centre is manky as anything and the fold out chair in there is sooooo not able to support my weight safely!! Yesterday ds2 was so hungry in a shop that I grabbed some clothes to "try on" so that I could BF in the changing rooms... the assistant must have thought I'd fallen asleep in there!

So any suggestions of places to go that are as nice as the mothercare BF room was? Or any cafes that are comfy and sort of BF friendly iykwim?

Thanks!

well, I tried that yesterday and maybe I'm fussy but I found it difficult to find a clean spot where I could fit in with the pram and sit comfortably. Maybe I need to try a few more cafes! [any excuse]

lol MaryMother

oh yes, salstrawberry, I remember that little room from DS1's time 5 years ago... or was that another Boots room in another store, another town (think they're all as yucky as each other!)

we need a star rating system for these places, really! Five stars could be comfy rocking chair in a warm room with soft music, cups of tea, and entertainment?

The search continues. I must be mad but I am going back in to town again this week so will keep looking for somewhere nice.

hi girls!

i remember that grim room in boots....it stunk!!!

i too have fed my kids all over town..i'm not at all shy! lol.

i did hear one time that marksies has a positive breast feeding statement, so you may be comfy feeding there in the knowledge that they will back you in terms of other customers grumbling.... (but, i have NEVER had ANY negative comments though in feeding my 3 kids over 9 years...not all at the same time!! )

there are a few cafes upstairs in the capitol centre (cafe caribe?) and they are roomy, and quieter than lots of others...easier with a buggy maybe?

again, upstairs in howells is full of older folk, and the tables are quite spaced..you could plonk yourself in a corner if you wanted too.

tbh, if you can feed confidently and discreetly, no one will even know that you're feeding....practice at home in the mirror, and go for it!

good luck!

The Starbucks in Borders is good-you can tuck yourself into a corner, there's loads of room for the pushchair, and they are v. good about bringing you glasses of water etc.

It you don't want to have to pay for a cuppa though, I often go into St David's Hall. You are quite entitled to go in and wander round the diff floors to look at the art exhibitions etc, and there are lots of chairs placed in quiet spots where you can pop yourself down and almost certainly be completely undisturbed for half and hour.

Will have a think if there is anywhere else-roll on John Lewis!

thanks for the new ideas

didn't know about st david's hall - good tip

have tried that starbucks since my last post but got stuck in one of the least comfy chairs right in the middle with a rather over-inquisitive man opposite - staring back did the trick though!

I am getting the hang of draping a blanket and wearing more versatile clothes again now (you wouldn't think I'd done this before, would you!).

I was in the borders/starbucks in Llantrisant the other day and a lovely lady came up to me to say how nice it was to see someone BFing. That was lovely

I'm looking forward to BFing with No2 (due Oct), as I wasn't very brave with DS. Did BF on Xmas day in Llandaff Cathedral mind!!

I really want to get out and about this next time, and not let anything stop me BFing. Noticed a few women with ponchos..but you can't see what's going on (but neither can anyone else!), and baby might get hot?

And Ikea are pretty switched on to BFing as well, with a special area in the restaurant.
