Baby groups/getting out with DD.

I came home to stay with my mum a week or so after dd was born. The birth was traumatic and I needed some looking after so DH, DD and I moved to my mums for a month. 8 weeks on & I am still here...

Now that I am feeling physically well again I need to start getting out of the house and talking to real people.

I don't drive & haven't yet attempted public transport with dd but I guess I could have a go now....

Can anyone recommend some baby groups/BF support groups in Liverpool. I am staying near Prescot/Huyton but don't really know either (grew up in Waterloo but its a bit hard to get to now). I have googled but can't find much.

Any tips would be much appreciated!

sorry you have had a rough time with the birth.

here's a listing for the Surestart/Children's Centres in Knowsley, www.knowsley.gov.uk/families/caring-for-children/childcare--childrens-centres.aspx

I live at the Huyton end of Childwall, so I am not that familiar with the groups really near where you are staying. If you are near the 61 bus route that goes from Prescot via Huyton into Liverpool, and goes near the Mystery children's centre in Wavertree that definitely has a breastfeeding group.

with public transport, it's easier when you have a really small baby to use the sling. If you use the buggy then I found the trains easier at first, as you can always just stand with the buggy in the corridor if necessary, whereas with buses, they don't always have free buggy spaces and you have to faff with your purse/bus ticket while getting the buggy on.

Thanks Totalchaos, there seem to be a couple within walking distance (albeit a 30 minute walk!).

I am not sure about the 61 bus, I will check though thaks.

I have a close baby sling which dd hated, I might try again though - she was 5 weeks old last time I attempted it!

Thanks so much for the quick reply

if you can get into central Liverpool, fact on wood st has fortnightly mother and baby cinema showings on a thursday morning at 11, also the walker art gallery has a baby/toddler group as well.

oh that's brilliant, thank you so much! Probably much easier for me to get to town I think. I might try those this week if they're on.

Hi Lulu!

I'm in Whiston, so not far from you, I'm guessing. I'm not originally from here either so struggled to find things to do with my DDs when they were born. If you can get to a surestart centre or even just phone one up, they could let you know what is going on. They often do activities in buildings other than the centre itself so there might be something that is easier for you to get to. Anyway, give them a call. Are you registered with a GP here? The HV should be able to point you in the directin of a BF group.

Find your local playgroup. I know your DD is too young to play but you might find other mums with babies who have brought older siblings to play.

I'm no good with buses - I'm lucky to have a car - but I know the trains are good.

Hope this helps and you will soon settle in with a crowd of like-minded ladies. We often have Liverpool meet ups. Some of us have small babies too so it might be an idea to keep a look out for threads in the Meet-up topic. I'm sure we'll be doing something over Easter.

Hiya

I am in St Helens and I went to the BF drop in clinic at Whiston hospital when I was struggling with BF and they were amazing.

There's one on a Friday morning, 10-12 in the hospital (second floor, parentcraft room), or there's a group in Whiston, I can't remember the name of the building but its off Lickers Lane, I think it's a school or something? That's on a Tuesday morning 10-12.

I am looking for local groups to meet mum's too, so maybe we could form one??

Hope this helps.

I'd be up for that, DH now back in work and no family near, would be good to get out of the house and meet some adults :o)
