Find me a hairdresser and solve my diplomacy dilemma...

A popular topic this, on the edinburgh local threads.

A while back my friend was telling me about her MIL who comes down from Aberdeen to get her hair cut. She used to get her haircut by a friend of a friend, but didn't like what they did so she thought it would be better to get her hair cut in Ed than go somewhere else in Aberdeen. I thought it was all very funny but now I'm faced with a similar dilemma.

I've been going to the hairdresser along the road for the past years and have never been that pleased but (mainly due to apathy)I haven't gone elsewhere. So now, after all this time I know all about her, all about her family, all about her assistant, all about her assistant's family and she knows all about me and mine, she's a nice woman. I see her on the street at least once a week.

The last time I went in I came out with a square cut bob when I had asked for a layered bob and worse, it's about 3cm longer on one side than the other!

We are moving to York later in the year but I'd prefer not to grow my hair until I can legitimately get my hair cut in another city.

God this is long. So, I live in Trinity, I'm low maintenance and cheap, all I want is a good cut. Where can I go and what can I tell my hairdresser? (just had a thought, I'm willing to sacrifice my DS2 on her, she doesn't do a bad job on him)

Don't mention it unless she does, then blame the credit crunch!!

Can you make up an imaginary friend who is learning hairdressing and is cutting your hair for nothing?

Thanks Mawbroon, good idea.

There is of course the option of growing a backbone and telling her that last time she gave me a wonky cut and didn't do what I asked so she has a chance to get it right.

go to cheynes in south bridge and ask for Hope
she is lovely and very very good

why do you have to tell her anything at all?

get a pair of clippers and do ds's yourself

Hi Nailpolish,

I've tried to do DS2's hair believe me! he is just too wriggly and grabby. He is sufficiently intimidated by the hairdresser to keep still. I cut DP's hair and DS1's, I used to cut my own too, but these days I quite like having someone else do something for me.

I hate conflict and I don't want to hurt her feelings. If I walk by with a fabby new do she is going to wonder... I'm usually all for honesty but this could be where my very talented trainee hairdresser friend comes in.

So how much does the lovely Hope cost?

My haridresser went on holiday, so I had the perfect excuse to go and see Hope! she did a good job.
